Why is a VPN a useful travel tool?

A virtual private network, or simply VPN, is a useful tool that secures your Internet connection. But it may be life-saving for those who travel, as we always need to be connected and contact our loved ones when abroad.

And now, let us share how you may benefit from using a VPN while traveling.

    Buy cheaper plane tickets

One of the best benefits of using a VPN is the lower cost of plane tickets. It is a known fact that airline companies manipulate ticket prices. When you are looking for flights to a certain destination, your IP is being tracked. So the next time you check it, the ticket price will be higher.

Additionally, airfares also differ according to the geographical location of a buyer. Having a VPN, you can book a cheaper flight, as it allows you to select a VPN server of a country that has a lower cost of living. To find the best fare, try connecting to different servers in various locations and comparing the prices. there are many VPN providers out there, so you may want to compare them at FindReviews and find the best one for you.

    Connect to public wifi securely

When traveling, you do not always have free access to the Internet. So, no matter where you are - airports, hotels, cafes, or shopping malls, - when there is a chance to use free wifi, you automatically reach for your phone to connect right away. However, using public wifi is very risky. All your data, especially sensitive one like logins, passwords, and emails, can easily be intercepted by hackers. Using a VPN will allow you to take advantage of public wifi connection and will protect your private information by encrypting your Internet traffic.

    Visit restricted websites

Some websites may be banned in the country you are visiting. For instance, when traveling to China, you will not be able to access the most popular social media platforms, certain search engines or messaging applications. If you are having a long term stay abroad, that may be a problem. This is where a VPN comes in to save you. It allows you to bypass online censorship and freely browse the websites that are blocked in your current location.

    Avoid frozen bank accounts

Being in a foreign country with your bank account frozen is one of the worst-case scenarios. Sometimes when you are using online banking while abroad your bank may consider it as fraudulent activity and freeze your accounts. Enabling a virtual private network will prevent it from happening and will secure your bank details at the same time.

    Enjoy private conversations

Whenever you are traveling, you are bound to reach out to your family and friends to inform them that you arrived safe or tell them about your adventures. However, you would not want your conversation to be overheard, would you? While some applications have built-in encryption, for most of them it is not the case. So, to ensure that your stories are not heard by the wrong ears you should use a VPN connection.

    Stream video

When you are abroad and want to enjoy your favorite shows you might get disappointed. Many streaming services have location-based restrictions, while some of them may not even available in the country where you are staying. So, you can use a VPN and change your IP address to that of your home country so that you have access to the content of your choice. It is worth noting that a VPN may slow down your connection, so if you’re on the hotel wifi, you might want to test your internet speed here to see if it makes sense.

Overall, a VPN can be a great addition to your holiday if you use it securely and you minimize any performance issues.
