As avid dog lovers, it is important for us to prepare you for everything that awaits you when you adopt a new family member into the home. We have no words to describe how much meaning and joy dogs can bring into our lives but it is important to know that with this wonderful addition to the family, comes a great responsibility as well. Having a dog can bring you great health benefits, that can offer you a sustained healthy lifestyle. They get you out and about on walks, they bring you comfort and love, and they are wonderful companions. There are many different types of dogs, but there are certainly breeds for everyone. Perhaps you have been considering an adult pomsky or perhaps looking at a type of labrador mix. There is always a good reason to get a dog and here will go through a list to help you take the plunge!

    Less depression and anxiety

Dog owners suffer less from depression. Animal care can be even more effective than medicine! The very act of taking the animal for a walk allows us to get the exercise and fresh air that we need, with a great companion. The much-loved love that a dog gives, results in a more positive approach to life and offers a social aspect such as talking to other dog owners, making new friends and talking to other neighbours who have pets too.

Petting the dog itself is known to lower heart rate and blood pressure which can be great for those who suffer with anxiety. They can also generally lower stress levels, just by being close to your pet.

Make them a part of your environment

A dog will fit into the social life of any age and situation. A dog can act as a friend to people after a divorce period, help singles get to know spouses, be good for their children and comfort the elderly. They are even known to be able to detect cancer in their owners when they sense something is not right. They may smell and lick the area and draw attention to it, which is a very incredible thing!

Today it is also known about the integration of dogs in rehabilitative medicine, physiotherapy treatments and more. Having a dog become part of your environment can enrich their life as well as yours too. The medical world has been exposed to the medical virtues of the canine world and so if you have a dog, you can be opened to a world of benefits.

Making them part of the family and encouraging them to be part of you, is going to make the dog feel at home and give you both that time and space to learn and grow with each other. Afterall, you have to get to know your pet and learn about their traits. It's a great relationship that comes from patience and perseverance. Loyalty to the owner is one of the most prominent traits among dogs. When there is a dog in the house there is just another good and loyal friend who always welcomes you, listens to you and is there to make you happier on happy days and comfort you on harder days.

    Positive presence for children

Countless studies have already proven beyond any doubt what every dog owner understands without any problem - Dogs have a positive effect on household members, and especially on children of all ages. Children who grow up with a dog at home actually grow up with a close loyal friend, one who will never hurt them and be there to play with them and comfort them in case of need. Indeed, children are usually very happy to be around a dog and they can offer peace of mind to parents too. Dogs can be great for kids with special needs also, such as autism and other learning disabilities. It takes time to train a dog but once they are aware of the child’s needs, it can be a blossoming relationship. They also offer many positive elements, such as therapeutic elements. Many studies have also shown that pets in general, and dogs in particular, have a real therapeutic effect on their environment and the people who live with them. A dog at home always creates a happier and more lively atmosphere, which over time translates into a better mental feeling for all present. They can be good for dementia patients also.

Choose the right dog for your lifestyle

In a reality where hundreds and even thousands of homeless dogs are kept in kennels, the intention to adopt a dog is a welcome step of paramount moral importance. In addition, a dog is a loyal companion, which greatly adds and enriches family life, as well as alleviates the loneliness of life alone. There are a number of aspects that it is highly advisable to consider and be aware of before adopting a dog, as this is a non-negotiable warranty, which is expected to last for many years. In addition, someone who has already adopted a dog may encounter various difficulties. However, as we already know, they do also enrich your life. Therefore it’s important to consider different factors before making the commitment.

Choose a dog that suits your energy level

Different breeds of dogs are endowed with a high energy level and a characteristic tendency to exercise. Some are more vigorous, need constant attention or frequent exercise in high doses - without which they may sink into depression, or become irritable. It is important to know the vitality level of breeds, which are less prone to exercise and more suitable for growing and developing indoors. This choice will help you not to find yourself in a situation where you are constantly having to take your dog for a walk or chase them and it leaves you feeling de-energized. Learn about the breeds first and find the one that is best suited. Younger puppies of course require more care and attention. Without a doubt though, there is always a dog for you!
