When Was The Last Time You Traveled Out Of Your Comfort Zone?

When was the last time you travelled outside of your comfort zone? To figure this out, you might consider when the last time your breath was truly taken away from you during a new experience. This might have been through apprehension, amazement or the disbelief that you managed to achieve something that you never considered possible.

Getting out of your comfort zone is an intrinsically important method of living your best life. You should aim to do this with frequency, at least a frequency that is realistic to you. This will keep you on your toes, and constantly able to push out and enjoy something that many people might choose not to. It makes you comfortable when uncomfortable, which can be a vital life skill to learn. It can also open you up to so many new experiences and interesting journeys that your life could potentially take on new vibrancy if you were only willing to experience it.

In order to do this, consider the following:

    Finding New Mediums Of Art

Inspiring yourself is easy when you are able to do so via new mediums of art. For example, if you’re the biggest movie goer, consider heading to Broadway musicals and plays this summer instead. This may provide you with a real sense of enjoyment and new novelty, allowing you not only to see new content, but grapple with an entirely new sense of production that you may have been neglecting for some time. This can feel vibrant, novel and quite amazing when you realize just what you have been missing out on.

    Expressing Yourself

Many people neglect to express themselves. This is because they may feel shy to do so. Even those with the most bold fashion sense might find it embarrassing to have anyone hear their singing voice, or many other similar forms of expression like this. However, expressing yourself can be one of the best methods of feeling alive, and is healthy for your soul. It might be that you take up a new instrument, practicing to one day produce some killer saxophone solos that demonstrate to a whole jazz club the morose and appreciative love you have in your heart.

It might be that you decide to join an amateur dramatics collective, acting and learning to express physical movement to the degree that you feel it most fun. You may decide to get involved in dance, or singing, or painting or many other forms of art that allow you to either express your inner talents, or express who you are as a person. This is incredibly healthy, and we all deserve to feel that way. You’ll likely notice your confidence improving as you make this effort a reality, which is perhaps one of the most satisfying things you can ever experience.

    Exercise

The dreaded world of exercise is not so bad once you become well versed in it. It’s those looking in from the periphery who neglect to do this that are the most fearful of it all. Exercise is incredibly important to sustain health, but could it be that you’ve been exercising in your comfort zone all this time? You might simply perform calisthenics in your flat so as not to appear stupid when really wanting to run outside - a norm for those who are overweight or insecure. You might be afraid to use the free weights in your gym, instead opting to use the simple machine circuit, when instructing yourself in the art of a proper squat would really make you feel proud of yourself.

Exercise is perhaps the most raw form of physical expression - it’s what our species knows the best. In order to get good at this and to get in shape, you will unfortunately need to overcome some mental hurdles to get to the intended result, but doing so can make you feel more powerful, alive, autonomous and stronger than you have ever felt in your entire life, even before mentioning all the health benefits you are set to accrue over time. This can be an extremely powerful method of blasting through your comfort zones, and can actually inform all the others that you may be hoping to change. If you can get through that hard morning run negotiating with yourself, somehow introducing yourself to an amateur dramatics society may not be quite as daunting.

With these simple directions, you might find that travelling outside of your comfort zone lends your life a new flavor, or many of them at once.
