What Not To Wear at a Trade Show Exhibition

There are certain outfits that you should never wear in a trade show. Some of the clothes look unprofessional, and others may be uncomfortable. If you are planning on participating in a forthcoming trade show, avoiding the below items to help you avoid common dressing mistakes. In doing so, you will be more comfortable, professional, and successful.

What Not To Wear at a Trade Show Exhibition

    Uncomfortable Shoes

Wearing uncomfortable shoes in a trade show display is a common mistake among exhibitors and attendees. Since you will be standing most of the time, your feet may start to hurt after some hours. Women should avoid high heel shoes. They should stick to shoes that provide more support. Men should look for shoes that allow their feet to breathe throughout the day. Although you might be tempted to choose the most comfortable footwear in your closet, try to find a balance between comfort and professionalism when you are selecting the right shoes.

Shirts with other Companies Logo on Them

Another fashion mistake done by exhibitors is to wearing a shirt with a logo of another company. You might not have the funds to design shirts with your company's logo on them, but you should avoid branded or shirts with logos from another company. While these shirts might not advertise your competitors, they are sending a message. And it might be the message that you do not want to send out. Instead, ask your staff to dress in plain simple clothes to keep from distracting potential customers.

    Inappropriate Clothing

Although comfort is essential at a trade show, most exhibitors tend to dress too comfortably. This is particularly true when they show up at the trade show display in their party clothes, workout attire, or beach wear, whereas the trade show is not centered on such attire. If your presentation is professional, ensure you look professional. Although you may want to dress down a little bit from your regular suit and tie that you wear all day at the office, you should still maintain some level of professionalism. Try wearing jeans and a nice t-shirt.

    Uncoordinated Outfits

Your company should also make an effort to look coordinated at the exhibition. This will help you look unified and allow you to stand out from the crowd. There are many ways in which you can look coordinated such as:

    • Wearing branded t-shirts
    • Dressing in the same color
    • Wearing the same style of clothing

Although having matching clothes at your trade show display is not necessary, but a little effort can help your company look coordinated. For example, if you were to encourage everyone to wear jeans, sports shoes, and a blue t-shirt, your booth will look more organized. On the other hand, if you ask your exhibitors to put on anything, you could get several colors of t-shirts, different styles of shoes, and a variety of bottoms. When this occurs, it might be challenging to differentiate the workers in the booth from the trade show attendees.

If you avoid wearing this type of clothing at your next trade show, you will experience more success at your trade show display. When you dress more appropriately, you add more credibility in the process, and you can expect more people to stop by your trade show display and pay attention to what you are offering.
