Tips for Staying Entertained on a Long Flight

Published: Apr 3, 2025 by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

If you want to stay entertained on a long flight then you will be glad to know that this is very easy to do. If you follow this guide, then you will soon find that you have endless options available, which is great if you have a trip coming up that you would like to prepare for.

    Watch a Movie

One of the first things that you should probably think about doing is watching a movie. The great thing about watching a long movie is that it gives you the chance to pass a lot of time without much of an issue. New or old, you probably have a great deal of options to choose from. You may also find that it is easy for you to try something new.

If you want to help yourself then you should know that you can download a few titles on Netflix before you board the plane. This will allow you to watch movies even when you don't have an internet connection, which is great, to say the least.

Try and write a list of movies in advance that you might be interested in as well, as this is a good way for you to make sure that you are never stuck in the moment.

    Read a Book

Bring a good book with you if you can, or even take an eReader. When you do, you will soon find that you can get captivated by a good story. Most people don’t complain about feeling sick or getting a headache when they try to read a book on a plane, but they do when they are in a car, so if you have avoided reading when traveling up until now then now is a good time to start.

Of course, reading is a great way for you to pass the time, but it is also a very good way for you to learn something new as well. If you want to try your hand at reading then again, it helps to download a good range of books before your flight so you can decide what you are in the mood for at the time of your flight.

If you can do this then you will notice that it is very easy for you to read something that whisks you away from your long flight and to a world much more exciting.

    Sleep

A great way for you to pass the time would be for you to try and catch up on some sleep. If you are on an overnight flight then it is also a good idea for you to try and use this time to rest so you can avoid issues like jet lag when you are on the go.

Neck pillows and a good eye mask will help you out a lot here, so be sure to look into that and try to get something that helps to set you up for success. If you find it hard to sleep when on a flight then this is understandable, so try and at least take some earplugs with you.

This will help you to get some rest, and it will also help you to shut off from the outside world a little bit.

    Browse the Internet

Another thing you can do, if you want to try and pass the time, is browse the internet. Most social media feeds have an endless scroll feature, not to mention that you can also quench your curiosity about the things that you might be interested in.

If you want to pass the time even more then you might want to try and see if there are any online games you can play. It’s very easy to load up a game like backgammon, and when you do, you will notice that it is very easy for you to pass hours at a time. Of course, if you want to play video games then you can also bring a handheld device with you if you want.

If you don’t have one then many airlines will offer you the chance to use the in-flight entertainment which can be an advantage if you want to pack light.

    Plan an Itinerary

You should also use the time you have to try and plan your activities efficiently. You also want to look into what accommodation is available and the places you might want to visit.

    travel

If you can do this then you will soon find that it is easier for you to create a bit of a to-do list for when you arrive. You can also take the time to organize your travel documents at this point as well, which will make your life a lot easier.

    Music

If you are a fan of music, then this is a great way for you to pass the time. Create playlists and also take the time to download podcasts. Podcasts can be the best way for you to pass the time on a long flight, so don’t be afraid to look into them. You might also want to try and use some noise-cancelling headphones too.

This can be a good way for you to make your experience more enjoyable and it can also help you to play your music at a louder volume without bothering the people who might be sitting next to you.

    Get Creative

Lastly, you can try and get creative. If you love drawing or knitting then bring your materials with you. If you don’t fancy yourself to be an artist then this is fine, just doodle to try and pass the time. When you do, you will notice that it is easier than ever for you to make the most out of the time you have without having to watch the clock.

Doodling can also be a good way for you to eliminate stress so be sure to keep that in mind as it could make a major difference to your mental health and how you feel when your plane finally lands and you get ready for your holiday.
