Stressed at Work? Find a Way to Relax

If you are among the many people who experience stressful days at the office more often than you'd like, you may be putting your health in serious jeopardy. Stress isn't something your body reacts to and then shakes off. But rather, it's something that can affect you both emotionally and physically. Even moderate levels of stress put a strain on your body's system, which can result in you becoming more susceptible to chronic illnesses, cancer, heart problems and promote thoughts of suicide. The good news is that there are things you can do to relieve stress during work and afterward.

    Plan Your Weekends

You know that feeling you get the week before you go on vacation? Well, why not keep it year round? The reason you feel good before going on vacation is that you will be away from the office and doing something you love. If you plan to keep the fun going each weekend in advance, you can actually help reduce stress from the job. This is because your mind knows that you have something fun planned and it starts to calm and anticipate the enjoyment. You don't have to make every weekend expensive where it costs hundreds of dollars. For instance, if you live in SoCal you could go to a brewery tour in San Diego, go to the beach with friends or have a picnic lunch in the park and then go to a comedy club in the evening.

    Natural Alternatives to Prescription Medications

It's easy to take the route of prescription drugs to help stabilize your emotions and allow you to remain calm. However, most, if not all of them, come with a list of possible side effects. If you want to relieve stress but you don't want to get hooked on prescribed medications, there are natural remedies that can offer similar results. For example, water soluble CBD, is easy to take and can reduce the feelings of anxiety and depression. Natural essential oils can also provide temporary relief. You can burn a candle at your desk or take a hot bath and let the natural scents of lavender, rose, bergamot or ylang-ylang calm you.

    Leave the Environment

When it's lunchtime instead of hanging out at your desk or in the company cafeteria, take a walk outside and enjoy your lunch in the park. The sounds of birds chirping and a gentle breeze from the trees around you will create a sense of calm and transport your mind to a happy place. After you eat, take a brisk walk back to the office and get your heart pumping. This will allow you to return energized, calm and focused. On a rainy day, find a quiet place and meditate for 10 minutes. This will help to clear your body and restore you to a relaxed state.

    Healthy Snacks

Eating the wrong types of foods at work during breaks can hinder your body's ability to calm and stay focused. Most people are guilty of reaching for a muffin, chips or a candy bar mid-morning or mid-afternoon to suppress their hunger. Unfortunately, these types of snacks have little or no nutritional value. Instead, try a healthy snack like a piece of fresh fruit, raw vegetables, unsalted nuts or organic bars.

Stress is a silent killer that can cause you great harm. It can take years off your life and cause your body to break down slowly. Thankfully, you can do something now to improve your chances of having a better quality of life, now and later. Take mini weekend trips or plan fun local activities, relax the natural way and get away from the office during your breaks. These are just a few ways you can relieve stress.
