Published: Oct 18, 2023 · Modified: Oct 29, 2023 by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

Pittsburgh is home to a variety of culinary delights that are sure to make you drool.

From the famous Primanti Brothers sandwich to the scrumptious burnt almond torte from Prantl's bakery, Pittsburgh's food scene is a must-experience. So, get your teeth ready by visiting a Pittsburgh dentist so you don’t miss out on the delicious food opportunities in the Steel City.

Let's take you on a journey through the city's top six Pittsburgh Food Specialties that'll leave you salivating:

    1) Pierogies

Pierogies are a traditional Eastern European dish that has become a staple in Pittsburgh-ian cuisine.

These delicious dumplings are filled with a variety of ingredients, including potatoes, cheese, and sauerkraut. You can find some of the city's most famous pierogies at S&D Polish Deli and PNC Park.

These tender and flavorful pockets of goodness are sure to satisfy your taste buds.

    2) Primanti Brothers Sandwich

If there's one food that Pittsburgh is famous for, it's the Primanti Brothers sandwich. This sandwich was created in the 1930s for truckers who needed a meal on the go.

The sandwich is made with grilled meat, melted cheese, tomato, coleslaw, and french fries, all piled high on thick Italian bread. There are several Primanti Brothers locations across the city, but the original restaurant in Pittsburgh's Strip District is a must-visit for any foodie.

    3) Prantl's Burnt Almond Torte

Prantl's bakery has been serving up famous burnt almond torte for decades, and it's been a Pittsburgh favorite ever since.

The torte is a combination of delicate white cake, custard, and homemade whipped cream, topped with crunchy burnt almonds. This dessert is truly a work of art and a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth.

    4) Heinz Ketchup

Pittsburgh is the birthplace of Heinz ketchup! The company was started in the mid-19th century by H. J. Heinz and has remained a Pittsburgh (and global) favorite ever since. The company introduced its iconic condiment, ketchup, in 1875.

Although ketchup is no longer produced in Pittsburgh, the city is still its home!

Heinz ketchup is known for its unique flavor, and it was even served on Air Force One for every president since Ronald Reagan. You can find Heinz ketchup in almost every restaurant in the city, but for the ultimate ketchup experience, head to the Heinz History Center.

    5) Potato Patch Fries

Pittsburgh is home to many unique french fry dishes, but none compare to the potato patch fries at Kennywood Amusement Park.

These fries are made fresh from whole potatoes and cut into thick wedges. They are then fried to golden perfection, covered in your choice of toppings, including cheddar, bacon, vinegar, and gravy, and served in a giant bucket. The potato patch fries are a must-try for anyone visiting the park.

    6) Sarris Candies

Sarris Candies is a chocolate factory founded in 1960 in Canonsburg, just outside Pittsburgh. This candy store is famous for its homemade chocolate, candy, and ice cream.

The most popular item at Sarris Candies is the chocolate-covered pretzels, but you really can't go wrong with anything here.

    Kid's Valentine’s Day Treat Idea

Pittsburgh's food scene is truly one of a kind, packed with unique and delicious options that will have you coming back for more.

From savory pierogies to classic sweets, Pittsburgh has something to offer every foodie. So, the next time you're in Steel City, make sure to taste some of these iconic foods and indulge. Just be sure to get your dental implants ready so they don't impact your ability to enjoy this culinary adventure.
