How to Nurture Your Soul this Summer

The time of year we seem to wait all year for is finally here! Summer brings sun, warmth and hopefully some time away from work, college and school. Time outdoors is always increased in this lovely season, with visits to the park, the beach or just enjoying a cold drink in your back garden. Either way, the increased sunlight puts everyone in a good mood and is so beneficial towards lifting your spirits.

So, during these few months it's important to get the full potential out of these days. Whether you are having a long break or not, read these tips on how to further your inner happiness and well-being this summer.

Get involved in an activity that nourishes you

Finding an activity that helps you either physically, mentally or spiritually can be so beneficial for your well-being. If you can find something you enjoy that ticks off all three, even better. Finding a pursuit that works for you can bring such a great sense of self-achievement too. It will also add a new dimension to your life that can bring that excitement that you've been searching for. There's a wide variety of activities that can nourish you in many ways, from yoga, rock climbing, swimming and dance classes to even just enjoying a weekly massage or aromatherapy session.

    Take a break

Taking a break is important any time of year, however whilst this season brings around a high and positive energy (along with FOMO) it's a great time to give yourself some time to get away from the daily routine. This doesn't have to be abroad, it can be right here in the U.S where you can discover some of the country's natural beauty. Even if you just take some time away from social media for a few days, or a certain something that can cause a level of toxicity in your life. No matter what you do or where you go, make sure you are focused and in touch with yourself and the people and world around you.

    Experiment with superfoods

Haritaki is the latest superfood doing the rounds on the health scene. Terminalia chebula, or Haritaki, is a herb from the Terminalia Chebula tree and has a rich history rooted in Buddhism, and old practices in East Asia. It's thought that consuming Terminalia chebula on a daily basis has a huge variety of benefits for your mind and body. Historically, this natural product was deemed to heal and create a higher consciousness. Over a thousand years later, Haritaki can be used to treat your body in a variety of ways such as improving skin issues, memory, digestive problems, sexual health and reducing obesity. The herb also increases brain function and has been thought to be useful to those living with and treating illnesses such as cancer and HIV.

Make a new meal each week

Food, cooking and eating is something that unfortunately can become very monotonous in our day to day lives. No matter how much of a foodie you are, there are often days when the whole ritual feels a bit tedious. In a fast-paced world, many of us rarely make time for it either. So, take some time this summer to rekindle a loving relationship with food. The act of cooking and preparing food is not only therapeutic, but it be a really fulfilling feeling eating – and sharing! - a meal you have made from scratch. Including a variety of nourishing food is also advantageous. Healthy does not by any stretch have to mean bland and boring.

    Find peace

This does not mean 'Go out and get enlightened!'. Yet, peace is something that often gets lost for most of us. Whether it's because your a parent, in a busy and stressful job, or maybe even your mind is a chaotic one, we all need to find stillness in life. Maybe you will find this on a slow-paced two week holiday, or even a special spot near by in which you retreat to for 20 minutes a day. Music, meditation and relaxing smells from candles and incense can be good sources of grounding yourself and your mind.

No matter where you find your peace, keep that space so you can always return, physically, yes, but mentally too.
