Our homes reflect our aesthetics and give an insider look into our personalities. We want people who step into our homes to understand who we are and what are our likes and dislikes by claiming our space. You want a place where you can relate to colors, pieces of furniture, and style to get back to and feel the comfort of being home. By paying attention to everything you experience and see in magazines and on your travels, your style will organically develop. Colors can give you a feeling of warmth and hominess, while certain shapes will resonate positively with you and put you in a content state of mind. Because this is such an important element, find out below how you can make an impact on your living space:

    • Have a Pièce de Résistance

This is the centerpiece that commands attention. This will be the piece around which you place everything else. This makes styling your space that much easier as you will only need to follow the lead of your piece. Find a unique piece of furniture like the vintage Eames lounge chair which is famous for its simple and sleek design. You can find many sellers providing Eames chair reproduction options since the real one will come with a hefty price tag. Don’t just go for the cheapest one you find though. Ensure the woodwork is decent and the leather is sturdy and will last you a long time. When this creative design was first introduced in the 50s, the designers had the same idea in mind, to have an aesthetically strong item in your living room or office and then everything else should be kept minimal and fuss-free.

    • Choose Meaningful  Artwork

A special painting or artifact has the power to speak volumes telling a certain story or capturing a certain emotion. Instead of filling your home with tacky knick knacks that you can just about find at anyone else’s place, opt for artwork with meanings behind them.

Contrary to common belief, these don’t need to be super expensive; you can actually find gems at your local flea market. The idea is to collect items that you can connect with and impact you in a certain way. If you are passionate about cars, display your vintage collection proudly in custom-made chic cabinets. This shows an individualistic flair that is hard to imitate.

    • Select a Distinctive Scent

When we relive the experiences, we usually reminisce about the scent that we associate with a certain memory. Choose one for your home that you would judge to be impactful and would leave a long-lasting impression on your guests. People in the Arab world, for example, are very mindful of the power differential smells having, that is why they always fill their houses with the intense odor of oud and incense. Go to the houses of perfumes and experiment with different smells and see how you feel about them in order to choose the right one.

    • Hang Up Photos

Nothing will make your home specifically your own more than the photos of family and loved ones. A home without any photos often feels cold and lacks personality.

Frame your favorite ones that make you feel good whenever you look at them and mount them on your fireplace or hang them on the walls in your family room. You can add your personal touch when selecting frames and the places where you choose to hang your photos.

    • Adopt a Particular Style

For all the choices you make around your living space, try to maintain a consistent style. If you are more of a classic person, you’ll probably gravitate towards neutral colors and basic interiors. On the other hand, if you are hyperactive and outgoing kind of person, loud colors and catchy designs that would shock others will be more your vibe. Identify your sense of style early on and incorporate a common theme all around your space and mark it as your own.

    • Pay Tribute to Your Principles

Your home is somehow an extension of your personality. Let’s say you spend your days rallying for the environment and calling attention for climate change; then you should make changes around your home accordingly. Refrain from using plastic bags for example and only use environmentally-friendly cookware.

From the time you start house-hunting, you want to find the place where you can build your life and call your own. You want people to come over and instantly feel like this space with all the little details, remind them of you. In order to define the impact you want to make, be more attentive to how you feel whenever you are in someone else’s house. This should be a good start for your journey.
