How to Host a Fun Girls’ Night In

Published: Dec 5, 2019 by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

Spending time with the girls is one of the most carefree fun activities a woman can enjoy. Whether you’ve known each other since high school, or just getting familiar from work or a book club, there will always be something to bond over, share, or gossip about. Depending on your age and interests, a girls’ night over at someone’s place can be more than just gossip and wine (although, admittedly, those are fun too!) If you’re having the ladies over for a hassle-free (and man-free) fun night at home, we’ve got your back!

Read on for some entertainment tips that are sure to cater to all tastes and inclinations, guaranteed to win you the Hostess of the Month title!

    Keep it Casual

With our busy hectic lives and endless family obligations, we all commit to formal occasions that can also be enjoyable. But let’s face it— there’s nothing more liberating than knowing that you can show up in sweats and sneakers with your hair up in a messy bun and still have the time of your life. So, let’s not make girls’ night another social obligation to worry about, and allow the ladies to indulge! Encourage casual attire (unless they’re coming straight from work, in which case you can always offer that they borrow an extra pair of slippers and abandon them heels.) Remember, it’s about being cozy and comfortable, allowing everyone’s true selves to shine and comfortably bond with friends.

    Bring Out the Fluff

Nothing makes your guests feel at home like fluffy pillows to rest on or cuddle, and a few cozy blankets (especially during the colder months). You want ladies’ night to be spontaneous; everyone to feel comfy and open, and the conversations flowing with intimacy and ease. Trust me, nothing brings out the wild side and dirty jokes more than being in a physically comfortable zone— and you can create that element.

    Be Ready to Play

A girls’ night can always be perfectly balanced with the right amount of conversation, jokes and some games. Be prepared to embark on a few fun games like Charades, Scrabble, Words with Friends, Wordscraper, Text Twist, Literati, Lexulous, and… you get the picture. Even the least experienced ladies will be happy to participate with a word unscrambler, generating valid words in puzzle games, and maybe learning new vocabulary along the way! It’s sure to add that extra spark to your cozy night and create fun memories to laugh about on your next gathering.

    Don’t Stress Over the Food

If baking is not really your thing, don’t sweat it. Most women are very easy to please when they know that they’re not under the spotlight. And when the company’s fun, and the atmosphere is homey and relaxing, store-bought cookies and salted pretzels can actually suffice! (And, well, maybe some carrot sticks and cucumber slices for the health enthusiast of the gang.)

I’m not saying that you should totally slack off on the nibbles, but seriously if you just lay out a decent assortment of sweet and sour finger foods and snacks, you’re golden. And if everyone gets hungry, you can always order a pizza! Just relax and enjoy your evening— you earned it.

    Have Your Beverages Handy

Some people love drinking, others just need a cup of hot cocoa and they’re good to go— if you want to be on the safe side of that, just have your beverage station ready with a little bit of everything. It’s a lot easier than it sounds, actually; you can be more than ready with a couple of bottles of wine (depending on the number of guests you’re expecting); some cold beers in the fridge; a kettle for hot beverages; instant coffee, tea, and hot chocolate mixes, and you’re all set! If you want to add your touch, feel free to prepare a big pitcher of sangria or margaritas. Bonding with your girlfriends is one of the healthiest, most fun things you can treat yourself to. But it really doesn’t need to be complicated, or sound like a chore—it’s really the opposite of that! Girls’ night in should be easy, casual, cozy, comfortable and conducive to spontaneity.

Have your friends come over wearing whatever they feel comfortable in; create a cozy space; have some yummy, hassle-free snacks to nibble on; get your drink on; and be ready to participate in some games that won’t need you to get off the couch often. You never know; girls’ night just might end up being so much fun that you all agree to make a weekly tradition out of it!
