    A beginner's guide to Twitter

Are you new to the world of Twitter and have no idea how to get started or what you should be doing on the platform? Do you have a business or brand that you would like to market on Twitter but aren’t too sure how to go about doing this?

Twitter has become a behemoth in the social media industry. It has become incredibly important in many places around the world, and people all over are using Twitter for different means such as events, breaking news, real-time sports conversations, jokes, and more.

These days, Twitter is a must-use platform and if you don’t have a Twitter account, you are missing out. It is one of the most popular social media platforms with over 300 million active monthly users. If you are new to Twitter and want to know what you should do, here is a basic guide,

    Retweets, likes, and engagement

As a beginner on Twitter, you may be wondering why no one is liking your posts or commenting on your content. This is because you need followers. Engagement is one of the best ways to measure the success of your account, but to receive engagement, you need to be engaging yourself too.

Twitter offers so many ways in which you can engage with other users and this is something that you should be taking advantage of. This is also why so many growth services like Twesocial have launched that allow you to buy Twitter followers. You can directly message people, like and comment on their content, share their content, or even follow users that you would like to follow you back.

    Optimize your profile

When you create your Twitter account, one of the very first things you will need to do is create your profile. If you have a Twitter account, you have probably completed this step already, however, in order to have a successful account you need to optimize your profile and make use of everything they have to offer you.

Having a great profile is a great way to get noticed and to encourage people to follow you, starting with your username which should be simple and easy to remember. This is because this is how people will search for your account. If you have a complicated or long username, people will not be able to remember it easily.

Next up is your profile photo. This is one of the most important parts of your Twitter profile. You want to make sure that you have a good profile photo that is easy to see in the small space. This is how people will recognise and identify your account.

Last but not least is your bio. In your bio, you should include a little bit about yourself or your account as well as include some interesting tidbits. If you have a business, here is where you should be including a link to your website and the location of your store or business.

    Learn the hashtag game

Although just about every platform makes use of hashtags, and pretty much everybody knows what a hashtag is, not too many people know who to use them efficiently and effectively in order to grow their accounts. Hashtags are one of the most powerful tools on Twitter and they allow you to reach massive audiences as well as make your content much more discoverable.

When using hashtags, you may be tempted to just use the most popular ones you can find, but this won't work. You need to ensure that you are only using hashtags that are related to your content. Of these related hashtags, you can then go on to choose the most popular.

    What to post

Twitter has an incredibly large user base of hundreds of millions of people, and this means that there are all sorts of content to go around and even do incredibly well. As a beginner, it is important to know what kind of content is popular and what you should be posting in order to attract an audience.

Although Twitter is sold as a microblogging-style platform, is it actually the content containing visuals that do the best, especially videos. People are far more attracted to visuals than to words, and this means that you should make use of images, videos, and gifs as much as possible.
