A Beginner's Guide to Medellin Nightlife

Published: Mar 6, 2020 by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

There are different lifestyles to experience, and the nightlife in Medellin, Colombia is an experience you want to be a part of. The following is a beginner's guide that talks about everything, from what to wear to where to go.

    What to Wear

If you are planning to go out dancing, your outfit could be jeans, a nice shirt, and high heels. A casual dress will also work great. There are a few high-end bars and restaurants that have specific dress codes. You will need to contact them to find out what they require.

Medellin's weather is a bit chilly at night, so be sure to bring a light sweater. It might be a good idea to pack a pair of stylish jeggings, which hug your curves and feel great.

    Brush up your Dance Skills

The nightlife in Medellin is probably going to lead you to at least one or two dance floors. If you want to make sure you are ready for those dance floors, it would be a good idea to learn some of the popular dances.

Common dances in this party city are salsa, reggaeton, champeta, and some modern or international styles. The people of Colombia are pretty friendly, so it may be possible to find someone on the dance floor who is willing to offer you a few dance lessons for free, especially if you are charming enough.

    Where to Go?

Those who want to enjoy the nightlife here are going to have to know where to go. One of the most beloved areas for the nightlife is Poblado. Here, you will find a variety of clubs where you can show off your dance skills.

Most of the clubs in this region are in Lleras Park. Provenza is another area worth checking out but not so much for the dance floors but for the activities you can enjoy there, like street lighting or how down-to-earth some of the bar owners and employees are.

    Learn the Basics

It may be a good idea to learn the language or at least some important phrases if you're going to be out at night in Medellin. You want to learn how to ask for the drinks you love in Spanish. You may also want to learn how to ask about the bathroom because you never know when you might need one.

You should also work on learning how to ask for directions and how to get to your hotel or the resort where you'll be staying so that you're able to get a ride when you need one. If you are a heavy drinker, then make sure you travel with a designated driver or that you have the number of a good taxi with you. Be sure to learn how to ask someone to dance with you as well.

    The Right Times

Make sure you go at the right time, and to do this, you have to learn more about Colombians, like how most get paid around the 15 of the month and at the end of the month.

If you want to visit a club filled to the brim, then these are your best dates. Many Colombians choose to party every day, so you are probably going to have a good time any day. Just make sure you party with everyone else, which is around one in the morning. Most clubs keep going until seven in the morning.

Hopefully, these points help you enjoy Medellin's nightlife a little more. Of course, experience is always the best teacher, so go out there with an open mind.
