    Hunting Essentials

Published: May 31, 2023 · Modified: Jan 8, 2025 by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

If you’re looking to head out hunting, then you have to understand that it’s not just a fun day out, it’s a challenge, one that you need to be physically and mentally ready for, which includes making sure that you’re equipped with all of the appropriate gear. Here, we’re going to look at some of the essentials that you should be making ready when you head out for the hunt.

    The right gear

Ensure that you’re geared up for the hunt, first and foremost. You want to make sure that you dress for the weather before anything else. Good rainproof hunting apparel is going to prevent moisture from getting to the body while also being breathable enough to prevent sweat from remaining and getting cold. Plenty of layers is crucial, as well.

    The weapon

First and foremost, treat every weapon as if it is loaded at all times to avoid any accidents or harmful incidents. Choosing your weapon is largely going to be about deciding what to hunt and when to hunt it, as different weapons have different seasons. The rifle is the traditional option, but you should think about accessories like Pulsar scopes that can improve the effectiveness of your rifle, too. Weapon safety and aim training should come before you pick up any rifle, however, as should understanding the difference in handling and safe storage, be you using 556 NATO ammo or more specific calibers.

    The navigation

Unless you know the area like the back of your hand, and perhaps even then, you should ensure that you have some navigation tools to prevent you from getting lost. You can carry a standalone GPS unit, but there are also navigation apps that, even offline, can access your location and allow you to save waypoints so that it’s easier to mark where you’ve been for when you need to return.

    The tools

Aside from the rifle, you’re going to need some sort of bladed tool, with knives being the most common pick for the average hunter. There are different styles, such as folding knives and multi-tools with screwdrivers and scissors added to them, but a solid fixed blade from suppliers like Knife Country is one of the sturdiest options and is going to last you a lot longer, important if you plan to come back for hunts in the future.

    The supplies

You want to make sure that you stay well-supplied when you’re out in the wild, especially if you’re planning to be out for long. You should have enough to keep you safe in emergency situations such as being stranded or loss. This includes water purification tools, high calorie foods, space blankets for shelter, a first aid kit, and what you need to make a fire.

Of course, the specifics of all of the gear that you need to bring out to the hunt are largely going to depend on when and where you’re doing the hunting, as well as what you’re hunting, especially when it comes to weapon choice. But make a checklist of the above recommendations and you’re well on your way to being fully equipped.
