Staying Sane While Recovering from an Injury

The worst things about having an accident and injuring yourself, is not always the injuries you have sustained, but the time you have to spend in recovery afterwards!

Staying Sane While Recovering from an Injury

If you are a pretty active person, then being injured and having to slow down and stay in bed more for a period of time can be excruciating. It can drive you almost to the point of insanity.

That’s why I’ve put together some quick tips to help you stay sane when you have been given doctor’s orders to take it easy while you recover from an injury, which you can find below:

    Have a schedule

It’s really hard, when you have to stay home and not move around much after an accident because every day seems to bleed into one another; in fact, every hour is much like the last and it can be so bad for your mental health. You can, however, fight against this, to some degree, by simply having your own schedule.

Write down a time to wake up and have breakfast, then schedule activities like reading or doing a jigsaw before lunch, and simply make sure every hour is accounted for until bedtime. It will feel so much better when you have some structure to your day.

    Keep your mind active

You might have to rest in bed or stay on the couch all; day, but that doesn’t mean your mind has to be inactive too. Whether you spend your days talking to your slip and fall accident lawyer about your injury case, you do crossword puzzles or you read a good book, the more active your mind is, the less you will be driven crazy by the need to stay put and rest.

Staying Sane While Recovering from an Injury

    Have friends over

Ask friends to come over and visit, or at least have them video call you so that you don’t feel too isolated from the rest of the world. Ask them to tell you about their day and what you have been missing instead of simply talking about your injuries as that is likely to bore you less and give you some much-needed connection with yr outside world that you are missing.

    Learn to meditate

If you still find yourself getting bored, then try learning how to meditate. You might think that doing such a thing sounds even more boring, but actually, mindfulness meditation can help you to control your thoughts so that you feel cooler, calmer, and more collected, and even help you to feel less bored by allowing your to really focus on the little things in life like drinking a good cup of coffee or seeing a beautiful sunrise. You will come to appreciate life more, even in your injured state.

    Get active

If you're allowed to exercise, do a little easier day to get those positive endorphins pumping around and aid a swift recovery!

Follow the doctor’s orders, rest up, and do all of the above if you want to heal fast and heal well. And avoid going insane while you do so!
