Five Ways To Calm the Mind in Any Situation

Published: Oct 20, 2022 · Modified: Oct 20, 2022 by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

We live in a chaotic and fast paced world. It is full of screens and lights. There are many things to do. We don’t live the lives of our ancestors, but we still have their biology. Many people are constantly in fight-or-flight response. There is more anxiety, stress, and depression. Between the internet, the pandemic, politics, and more, mental illness has become a mainstay of our culture. Sometimes it’s necessary to calm the mind. Below are five ways you can do so in any situation.

    Meditate

Meditation is one of the best ways to calm the mind. There are many types of meditation. Close your eyes. Focus on your breathing. Repeat a mantra in your mind. Allow your thoughts to wander but bring them back to the present moment. Meditation is a good daily practice that can help you feel better, calm your racing head, and provide more clarity. Meditation is a form of mindfulness, but there are many others as well.

    Use Grounding Techniques

Grounding techniques are another form of mindfulness practice. There are all kinds of different tactics you can use to ground yourself. A common one has to do with temperature. Try taking a hot shower. Or put a cold ice cube in your hand. As you hold onto the ice cube, you will become uncomfortable, which brings you back into the present moment. When the ice has melted, you will begin to feel better. Your mind will be off unnecessary thoughts. Instead, you will be able to bring yourself into the present, which usually isn’t that bad. Look up grounding techniques to find one that works for you.

    Try CBD

CBD, which is otherwise known as cannabidiol, is a chemical that is derived from the cannabis plant. CBD doesn’t make you high or intoxicated, but it has holistic advantages. Taking full spectrum CBD oil will help you calm down, alleviate stress, and mitigate anxiety. It also facilitates sleep and decreases physical pain. CBD increases the appetite and lowers inflammation. Overall, it is a calming agent you should try if you are often stressed, anxious, or worried. It is all-natural with few to no side effects. The science is still catching up on just how much CBD can help people, but for now we already know that it calms the mind and the body.

    Interact with Living Things

It is also extremely beneficial to be around living things. Whether it’s plants or a pet like a cat, engaging with living beings around you will lower stress and worry. It will alleviate anxiety and depression. You may not be cognizant of it at the time, but there is a natural benefit to being around other living things. When you are feeling down, go take a walk in the park. Sit under a tree. Go visit some dogs. Whatever works for you, in a lot of situations being around living plants and animals will have a great affect on your mindset.

    Get Some Exercise

It’s cliché for a reason. Exercise doesn’t just have great benefits for your body, it has advantages for the mind. When you are exercising regularly, you will be less stressed and anxious. You will have a sense of calm that is not to be overlooked. You may not be able to exercise in a specific situation, but if you are working out frequently you will be better equipped to handle stressful situations. When you get some exercise, you can take on the world better. When you’re looking for ways to calm the mind, start by working out.

There is a lot of stress in our modern world. We aren’t escaping lions or hunting our food, but this lack of survival necessities have shifted our priorities. That excess mental energy gets turned into stress, anxiety, and feelings of sadness. Whatever your life is like, it’s important to take care of yourself.

Are you feeling stressed? Are you anxious? Feeling depressed? You should try one of these methods and if it doesn’t work for you, you can move on to the next one. Remember, there are options. Don’t accept a mind full of chaos. Create a serene mental state that improves your life in more ways than you imagine. Just start by putting in a little effort and dedication to getting better.
