    Philly Cheese Steaks Casserole Recipe

Published: Mar 26, 2026 · by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

This Philly Cheese Steak Casserole recipe is a delicious, filling, hearty comfort food recipe, filled with tasty steak over a bed of creamy mashed potatoes!

Why we love this Philly Cheesesteak Casserole Recipe

Casseroles like this Philly Cheese Steak Casserole Recipe are always a good idea when you want to make a family dinner that's easy, but still really tasty and filling! We love this Philly Cheesesteak dinner because it's simple to make and will fulfill that "I want to order cheesesteak delivery" itch!

We originally thought that we'd serve this Philly Cheesesteak Casserole on top of a bed of egg noodles, and while it did taste great, we were looking for more of a filling, hearty meal. Isn't that the whole point of making a casserole?

We found the cheesesteak mix to be a little weak in terms of the amount for a casserole served on top of egg noodles. After giving it a little thought, we realized that this casserole dinner would be more like a casserole served on mashed potatoes.

So the next day I scooped the left overs on a bed of mashed potatoes and THAT was what it needed, mashed potatoes! It's delicious. Such a great comfort food!

Our Tips on How to Make the BEST Philly Cheese Steak Casserole

I found the steak meat for this Philly Cheese Steak Cassarole in the freezer section at the store. Think Steak-Umms that is sold in the frozen foods section. Walmart also has a Great Value Brand of seasoned Sirloin steak. Just note that I kept it frozen right up until I began making this easy casserole dinner recipe.

If you want to make the Philly Cheese Steak Strips from Scratch:

I didn't put any seasoning in the Cheese Steak Casserole mix (aside from Worcestershire) because the package said the beef was seasoned.

If I was going to add my own seasoning to plain sliced sirloin beef, I'd use: 1 teaspoon each of: onion powder, garlic powder, salt and ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper.

How to Make This Philly Cheese Steak Casserole Recipe

If you don't use an ovenproof skillet, put this Philly steak casserole into an 8x8 or 9x9 casserole dish and it will work just fine.

Ingredients you will need to make Philly Cheese Steak Casserole

    • 1 package, 14 oz, seasoned sirloin philly steak
    • 1 green bell pepper, seeds removed and chopped
    • 1 small onion, chopped
    • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
    • 4 ounces cream cheese, cube
    • 4 ounces sliced mushrooms (drained if using from a can)
    • 6 slices provolone cheese
    • chopped fresh parsley for serving
    • 6 cups of mashed potatoes, kept warm for serving

Directions for how to make Philly Cheese Steak Casserole

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

Add sirloin to an ovenproof skillet with pepper and onion and cook over medium heat, breaking apart beef and stirring frequently until onions are tender and beef is no longer pink.

Add Worcestershire sauce and mix well.

Add cream cheese and continue to cook and mix over medium low until cheese is completely melted and mixed in.

Next, stir in your sliced mushrooms.

Place cheese slices on top and bake for 15 minutes or until bubbly around the edges and cheese is melted.

Top your easy casserole dinner with chopped fresh parsley and serve it on a bed of mashed potatoes!

    Philly Cheese Steak Casserole

This Philly Cheese Steak Casserole recipe serves 4-6, depending on how generous your servings are!

Note: I think you could actually put the potatoes at the bottom of a pan and spread the cheesesteak mixture on top, though it might take longer to bake. I would add an additional 10 minutes to your baking time to make sure that the entire thing is completely heated through.
