Visiting The UK? Enjoy A Weekend In Brighton

Published: May 7, 2019 · Modified: Nov 4, 2024 by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

If you are visiting the UK, you may be heading to London or another major city like this. But why not explore a few other parts of the country? Brighton is a city you should certainly consider. This is a location that has something to offer everyone. It is filled to the brim with personality.

There is so much to see and do. The ambiance is lively, colorful and vibrant. It is definitely a great place if you just want to get away from it all and have a fun weekend with your close friends.

Brighton is an excellent place for shopping. One of the best things about shopping in Brighton is the fact that there is an excellent mix. You are not merely going to be shopping in the typical retail stores. There is a whole host of different quirky and unique boutiques.

You can buy everything from retro clothing to black and white prints. This is the perfect place to pick up a souvenir that is going to remind you of your vacation with your pals for a long time to come.

As you probably know, Brighton is situated on the beach. The beach and the seafront really bring a unique atmosphere to the city. Of course, you will be able to enjoy this more if you visit during the summer when the weather is warmer. However, there are some brave souls that even take a dip in the sea during the winter, although this is not something we are advising!

Either way, a walk across the beachfront is a magical experience. There are some interesting shops and food kiosks around here. You can do the typical British thing and enjoy some scrumptious fish and chips by the seaside. If you fancy going for a bit of a walk you will find yourself at an upmarket marina or a hove, depending on the direction you go to of course! The marina is filled with interesting boats and you may even fancy taking a sailing lesson if you are feeling adventurous.

Naturally one cannot talk about Brighton without mentioning the famous Pier. Taking a walk along Brighton Pier may sound like a cliché, but you cannot visit Brighton without giving it a go! The Pier has an undeniable charm and beauty.

You and your friends may even enjoy reliving your childhood and taking a go on some rides. Will you be able to resist the helter-skelter at the end of the pier? There is an amusement arcade and plenty to do. If you are looking for a fun day out filled with laughter and memories to cherish this is definitely a good place to have it.

Whilst we are on the subject of Brighton and the fact that it is situated in a lovely location by the sea, it is worth mentioning that this gives you the opportunity to take advantage of some fantastic accommodation options when you are visiting the city. Of course, you have the usual B&Bs and hotels.

However, most people prefer to stay in self-catering cottages. These cottages give you the opportunity to take advantage of the most stunning locations. You could be bang in the middle of Brighton city centre. You could have a beachfront property overlooking the sea. Alternatively, you could even go a bit further out and stay in a cottage that is in the wilderness with stunning landscape surrounding you.

The options are endless. These cottages have a unique charm and character. They really enhance the overall stay. Moreover, the self-catering aspect means you have the freedom to explore Brighton and enjoy your holiday as you wish. If there are more than three of you going away you will be able to stay in the same place whereas this would not be possible with a B&B or a hotel. Of course, don’t forget chargers are different in the UK, and you will want to pack some warm clothes too.

One of the best things about this city is undoubtedly the art and culture options that are on offer. This is another thing that Brighton is famous for. It is one of the artiest destinations in the whole of the country. One of the main tourist attractions in Brighton is the Royal Pavilion. This is truly a spectacular sight to behold. The palace was built by King George IV / Prince Regent. It showcases the most stunning architecture. The golden roof will take your breath away! You will witness carved snakes, grand chandeliers and more. It really is a display of true Eastern splendour, with the inside being oriental in theme. There is nothing else quite like it and you should definitely consider including this in your list of things to do when visiting the city.

There are plenty of other places for fans of art to visit as well. The city is laced with different venues that show off the works of various artists. One of the most popular things a lot of people like to see is the work of Anish Kapoor. This is a famous sculptor who created the mirror sculpture on the hills above Brighton.

There is lots to do in the evening in Brighton as well. As mentioned, this is a place with a lively and energetic atmosphere. If you want to have a good night out with your friends you won’t be short of options. You can certainly party the night away. There are lots of bars and clubs to enjoy. Perhaps a comedy club is more up your street? After all, who does not enjoy laughing? The famous comedy hub in Brighton is called the Komedia. If you would like to experience some theatre or pantomimes you can go to the Theatre Royal. This venue shows a whole host of great performances throughout the year.
