5 Things You Need To Pack For a Caribbean Vacation

Published: Nov 11, 2011 · Modified: Jan 1, 2015 by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · 3 Comments

While Trinidad isn't technically the Caribbean, I'm on my way there now and realized - I've perfected the art of packing for a quick weekend getaway in the islands.

Living in Miami has its advantages; namely, flights to the Caribbean are usually less expensive than domestic flights! For instance, my daughter and I are flying to Buffalo, NY next weekend and our flights were $278 each. My flight to Trinidad for this weekend? It was $236.

Over the years, I've made the common mistakes when packing my over night bag: over packing, under packing, forgetting my razor, etc. But I think I've finally got it down!

5 Things You Need When Traveling to the Caribbean:

Sandals - a "nice" pair of flip flops, or dressy sandals. Those sexy high heels? Leave them at home. It's hard to walk in the sand in them. Bring one or two - at the most - comfy sandals and be done with it.

Bring 2 bathing suits - bathing suits take a lot longer to dry than you'd think, and no one wants to step into soggy bikini bottoms!

Leave the cosmetics and toiletries at home. Bring toothpaste, conditioner, deodorant and sunscreen. The hotel will have soap, lotion and shampoo. Save that space in your bag for extra sunscreen!

Pack simple dresses - and shorts and tank tops if you plan on being active. For this trip to Trinidad, I've packed 4 sundresses and one semi-fancy dress. When you're spending all of your time outside, in the heat, you want to dress as cool as possible. Also? What's cuter than wearing a pretty sundress on the beach?

Bring your camera, AND chargers for your electronics. It's lame to come home from a fabulous Caribbean vacation and have no photos to show for it!

Also...before you head off on your Caribbean vacation, please get a pedicure. Please.

I live in the Pacific Northwest, I think I would forget the sandles and have to buy them there.
