5 Halloween Decoration Don’ts: Host the Scariest Party for Your Friends

As adults, the decorations and costumes are the best things about a Halloween party. It lets you express all your creativity, and you can even go a little overboard without any judgment. Wearing the most outlandish costumes and turning your home into a horror movie set is what makes Halloween so special. But there is a catch.

Although there is nothing wrong with going a bit over the top, there are a few things that are absolute “don’ts.” For instance, when you are buying Halloween decorations, you must ensure that you are not getting something that could risk people's safety. Apart from this, here are some Halloween decoration ideas that you must steer clear of.

    1. Using Only an Orange and Black Palette:

Yes, orange and black are the colors of the season, but it is essential that you think beyond them. These colors are very predictable and can sometimes get boring. Hence, it is better if you don’t stick to the color palette for the entire house. Now, white is a color that also looks very spooky, and if you don’t have clumsy kids, you can definitely go for it. It creates an eerie feeling and makes the decoration look more ghostly. Moreover, for the pumpkins, instead of decorating them with the same old black and orange, go for gold and black. This gives an elegant vintage feeling, but it still looks pretty Halloween-inspired.

    1. Plastic Animals for Decoration:

A spider hanging in the living room or a snake on the dining table may sound great, but in reality, they are very distracting. These decor ideas are old-fashioned and also take away from the functionality of the space. If you have a plastic snake lying on the dining table, you may have to adjust the placement of the dishes and other cutlery during dinner time. Moreover, you don’t want a toxic, environmentally unfriendly item lying on the table when you are serving dinner for your guests. Instead, use food presentation to evoke a spooky theme, making it both creative and functional. This way, you are sticking to the Halloween theme and also serving your guests some delicious snacks.

    1. Sound Effects at the Front Door:

Don’t make your home look like a haunted house at an amusement park. Although on Halloween you can go as spooky as you can, your guests still need to feel warm and welcomed when they enter the house. So, it is best to skip those sound machines that make a screeching noise when your guests enter the house. However, you can play the soundtrack of a horror movie in the background for a scary effect.

    1. Overusing Gore or Blood:

You want the decorations to be scary but not repulsive. So, avoiding too much blood and gore as decorations is best, especially if you have kids coming to the Halloween party. Stick to a theme that is happy and cheerful, such as a fantasy world or a friendly ghost. Not every Halloween decoration needs to look like a crime scene. Hence, when it comes to adding gore, it is best to stick to moderation. This will ensure that guests of different ages feel welcome at your party.

    1. Having Too Many Candles Everywhere:

Candles do look beautiful, but placing them everywhere is not safe. Firstly, there is always the possibility of accidents; secondly, little kids may hurt themselves while playing around. Yes, you can place them on the dining table or on a shelf, but placing them near an electrical outlet or wooden fixtures is a strict no. They may look beautiful, but there is always a fire risk, especially around children or flammable materials.

    Conclusion:

You can indeed go all out for the Halloween party decoration, but there are a few things you should stay away from. You want the decoration to look scary, but it should also feel welcoming for your guests, especially if they bring their kids along. Moreover, it is also important to understand that safety is always over aesthetics! So, ensure the decor is safe for your guests, and get creative with the decorations.
