    It's that time of year when everyone is trying to better themselves. My Facebook timeline is full of people talking about changing their eating habits, getting more active, quitting smoking, taking vitamins, you name it and they're doing it!

    I came up with my own Ways to Be More Active and while I usually do these things, I've been really slacking lately, partly due to my busy travel schedule and partly due to being stuck at my desk working to catch up...and partly due to laziness during the hectic holiday season. BUT I AM DETERMINED TO CATCH UP.

    Of course, I've been on this path to self improvement for a few years now, and while I was making incredible progress, the incredible amount of travel I did in 2017 - and eating (and drinking) all kinds of things that I don't normally eat at home - led to my gaining a whopping 18 pounds.

    I've always been careful about what I eat, but now that I am home and trying to get back into better shape - not just weight-wise, but physically as well (let me tell you, I can't climb 4 flights of stairs as well or as quickly as I used to!), I am paying special attention to what I am eating, drinking and doing each day.

If I am going to say, the second or third floor, I ALWAYS take the stairs. Sometimes even if it's on the fourth floor, if I am not too tired or I am not carrying a lot of bags.

    Find An Outdoor Activity That You Love

    I absolutely love kayaking. While it isn't a full body work out, it does help tone my core, my arms and my back. Sometimes people ask me how my back is so sexy when I don't lift weights...um, it's the kayaking!

    For you, it may be a sport, tennis, rollerblading - anything that keeps you moving! The added benefit is that you're spending time outdoors and soaking up nature as well. Just don't forget sunscreen and protective gear. If you're going a water activity, safety first! Make sure that your equipment is up to date and you're following the rules for what you should bring along.

    Walk! Walk Your Dogs or Event Just Yourself

    GO FOR A WALK. I have dogs, and while I suck at walking them often because they are always barking at other dogs, I try to get my legs moving at least once a day! You can take your dogs around the block, or even just to the dog park. Anything that gets you both moving!
