3 Questions to Ask Before Traveling to Morocco

Published: Jan 15, 2020 · Modified: Jun 8, 2023 by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

Traveling can be one of the most interesting and exciting things you'll ever do, especially if you venture out of your comfort zone. Morocco is steadily becoming a more popular travel destination, with affordable Morocco Tours being offered through multiple outlets.

However, before you travel anywhere, you need to make sure to do some research, so you're fully prepared. You want to be able to enjoy your vacation and not have to worry about unforeseen issues or find that you're not as prepared as you thought you were.

Below are some useful questions to ask before visiting Morocco.

3 Questios to Ask Before Traveling to Morocco

    1. When is the Best Time of Year to Visit?

One of the first things you need to determine your visit to Morocco is the time of year that's best for travel. This will be determined by what exactly you're looking to do in Morocco and what part you'd like to visit.

Generally speaking, the best time to visit if you're looking for the best weather would be during the Spring (March to May) or the Fall (September to October). During this time, the weather is generally warm. Coastal regions are generally more temperate year-round, so there isn't necessarily an "off-season" for those areas.

Of course, if you want to visit when it will be less crowded and wouldn't mind more extreme temperatures, visiting during the off-season is also an option. Traveling during the off season could also mean cheaper plane tickets, so it's certainly a viable option.

    2. How Should I Dress?

Especially if you're a woman, figuring out how to dress in Morocco means taking into account more than the weather. Men have more freedom to dress how they would like, but women should take care to dress on the conservative side out of respect for the local culture.

The Moroccan style of dress isn't too strict, but it is different than the traditional Western style. Sticking with long skirts or dresses, pants that cover the knees, and conservative tops would be the way to go. The rules for men are less strict, but it is uncommon for men to wear shorts in public. For this reason, long pants are a safe bet.

Morocco also tends to be more modest, so it's a good idea to stay away from flashy name brand clothes or fancy jewelry.

    3. How Should I Plan my Finances?

Before your travels, always make sure to research the currency conversion rate. This can change up until the last minute, so it's a good idea to keep up to date until right before your trip.

As for cash versus credit, some larger shops will take credit cards. However, these are few and far between, and if you plan on visiting any local markets or street vendors, you will need to pay in cash. Even cabs will only take cash, so make sure to have plenty on hand.

ATMs are also a rare occurrence, and because of this, they often run out of cash to dispense. If you're staying in a hotel, the front desk may be able to exchange your currency for Moroccan currency. Still, it's much easier to do this at the airport (where they also have discounts on conversion rates if you convert a high enough amount).

When you're out and about, also make sure to leave a tip. Tipping is one of those things that's very different from country to country. Still, in Morocco, it's common to leave 1 Dirham (the Moroccan currency) at local places and around 3-4 Dirham at a fancier restaurant.

    Final Thoughts

Essentially, traveling to Morocco is very doable. Just keep the above questions in mind, and you'll be ready for the trip of a lifetime.
