This post was created in partnership with Citi®. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Last month, I told you about the Citi Every Step of the Way Program running in conjunction with the 2014 Winter Olympics. You can find out more about that program here: http://citi.us/1ek5E7S . My favorite athlete in the program is Evan Lysacek, is an American figure skater and 2010 Olympic Gold Medalist. He has supported Figure Skating in Harlem in 2006 and is currently an Advisory Board Member of the organization. This organization provides girls from ages 6 to 18 with the opportunity to combine academic achievement with physical well-being. Their tagline is “Opportunity. Education. Empowerment.”
Although Evan wasn’t able to participate in the 2014 Winter Olympics due to injuries, his dedication to the sport of figure skating is beyond amazing. As difficult as it must have been to not compete in the event, Evan still traveled to Sochi and supported both his Sponsors as well as his teammates while they pursued their dreams.
He is that dedicated to his sport, his teammates, and his dreams. Even when he knew in his mind that he wouldn’t be able to compete, he still believed in his heart that it was still possible - and that type of belief is inspiring, because he never stopped trying.
He kept reaching for his dreams, and he kept encouraging others to reach for theirs.
One of those places where he encourages others is the non-profit program Figure Skating in Harlem. Evan Lysacek is a huge supporter of this program which helps underserved girls meet their dreams both academically and physically. The unlikely pairing of these girls who are from disadvantaged backgrounds with ice skating has been a resounding success by all counts, and they’re trying to expand the program to include even more young ladies.
I’m excited to support Evan as well as the girls, and I hope you will too!
Wathc Evan Lysacek’s Bio Video below:
Citi has teamed up with 9 athletes to help causes near and dear to their hearts. Each Team Citi athlete has teamed up with a specific organization to help, and it’s all about opportunity and athleticism, with athletes choosing organizations near and dear to their hearts. Citi’s Every Step of the Way® program lets those of us watching and supporting our Olympians at home the opportunity to pick which causes we want to be supported too! How exciting is that? We can choose campaigns to award $5 of the total $500,000.
Do you want to win a $25 Visa Gift Card? It's easy!
This giveaway is only open to US residents and ends on 3/31 at midnight, EST.

Julie Chu. She's a badass girl hockey player who is giving kids a chance to try out the sport for free. Free! That's such an expensive sport to get into, so most parents turn their kids down from Hockey. She's made a 360. c:
