Vacations can be oh so predictable – you book an accommodation, check out a few sights, and hit the beach. If you’re lucky you may get to add in a few drinks or an out-of-the-box tour.  Boring!

It doesn’t have to be this way! Be sure to check out adventure travel websites for insider tips on what to do, where to stay, and what not to miss for a vacation that’s anything but stale.

Top 5 Pop Culture Vacation Spots around the World

The Great Wall of China

This is one of the largest structures ever made by humans and yet it was made by the Ming dynasty, roughly 600 years ago!

You’ve probably seen pictures of it but it’s fair to say they don’t do it justice; it’s over 13,000 miles long and attracts in excess of 10 million visitors per year.

There is a myriad of twists and turns, alongside uneven steps to marvel at; all designed to keep invaders out.

This is one feat of engineering that everyone has to see once in their lifetime.

Petra

This has been named one of the new seven wonders of the world. It was actually built in 312 BC but is surprisingly well preserved. If you’ve ever watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade you’ll have already had a glimpse of this amazing palace, built into the rock.

But, the images are nothing compared to the beauty of visiting the place; you’ll be equally impressed and awe-struck!

Niagara Falls

This may be one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world, but there is a good reason for this. It is right on the border of the US and Canada and one of the most impressive, as well as iconic, falls in the world.

It doesn’t matter how many people are there, you’ll find a spot to appreciate the beauty of this cultural attraction.

However, there isn’t much else there other than the falls, so make it part of several destinations when you travel.

Machu Picchu

This stone bordered Indian citadel is located high in the Andes mountains and you’ll be amazed at the complexity, practicality, and beauty of this construction. It is worth trekking up to the building, although you’ll need to allow several days for your visit.

If that’s not an option you can always take a bus or even a train to get to the top of this structure; it’s an experience you’ll never forget!

Acropolis

These Greek ruins are some of the most famous runs in the world; you’ll have seen the pictures. In fact, there hardly seems to be a day when they aren’t surrounded by a crowd of people.

But, you shouldn’t let that put you off!

You will have to wait to get up close to these ruins, but, the sheer size and scale of the construction will amaze you. It’s something that you simply can’t appreciate until you’ve been there.

Acropolis in Athens Greece

It may now be in ruins, but, you’ll instantly recognize the capabilities of the ancient Greeks, and marvel at how this was possible without the machinery we have today.
