The Iron Man 3 Inspired Color Block Manicure #IHeartMyNailArt

I used to savor those once-a-month Monday mornings when Angeline would go off to school and I would head over to the salon to get a manicure and pedicure. When we tightened up our budget last year, the very first thing to go was my monthly appointment at the salon. Even though that gel manicure lasted me three weeks, I knew that $75 would be better spent elsewhere. With all of the Sally Hansen products at my local Walgreens, I knew it wouldn’t be that bad going without a professional manicure.

And really, with all of the nail art fashion on Pinterest nowadays, I don’t need a manicurist to make my nails all pretty – I can do that on my own!

I am going to be walking the red carpet at the Iron Man 3 premier in Hollywood next week, so I took a quick trip to my neighborhood Walgreens to pick up a few new Sally Hansen nail products to get red carpet ready. There were so many options that it took me a while to pick out which nail polishes I wanted! You can read about my shopping trip in this Google+ album.

I usually stick with french manicures or red nails, though I sometimes like to experiment with pastels too! I decided that I was going to do a red and gold color block theme for my red carpet manicure, and I used this fun dress that I found while shopping on eBay for a red carpet gowns as inspiration.

If you’re not familiar with the term color blocking, it simply means taking 2 or more colors and combining them separately in the same area in a geometric fashion. You can check out all of the user-submitted nail designs on Facebook.com/iheartnailart for awesome ideas of your own, or I also suggest browsing the #IHeartMyNailArt hash tag on Pinterest. There are so many different ideas out there!

I used my Balance® Rewards card at Walgreens while shopping and even earned a special code to enter the Celebrating Mom makeover by Martin Llorens contest because I bought $20 in beauty products! I also picked up a few household supplies and I earned 3000 Balance® Rewards points for my purchases! Now I have $10 credit to spend on my next purchase – which will be soon, because I am at Walgreens a few times a week!

The Sally Hansen Iron Man-Inspired Color Block Manicure

Step 1 – Give your nails one layer of Sally Hansen Double Duty Strengthening Base & Top Coat.

Step 2 – Give your nails two layers of Sally Hansen Diamond Strength No Chip Nail Color in Red Velvet.

If you get paint on your cuticles or skin, don’t fret! I always do, and I just dab a tooth pick in acetone to remove it when I am done.

Step 3 – Get a small amount of Golden Rule Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure on the end of the brush, and gently dab it on the tip of your fingernail, making small dabs from left to right.

Repeat until you have a pretty solid amount of golden sparkles.

Step 4 – Give your nails one layer of Sally Hansen Double Duty Strengthening Base & Top Coat.

Make sure to gently brush a tiny bit of top coat on the edges of your nails – this helps seal the polish and nail so that they don’t chip easily!

I think my Iron Man 3 color block manicure is going to look awesome with my dress!!

What do you think?

Want to create a super fun color block look of your own? It’s so much fun and the possibilities are endless! You can also follow SallyHansen and Walgreens on Twitter for design inspiration and upcoming promotions.

Walgreens currently has Sally Hansen Gel Salon Kits on sale for just $59.99 (through April 27th) – I told Chris that I wanted a set for my birthday this weekend. It would be so cool to be able to get gel manicures at home without having to pay $35 every time!

I’m turning 35, I totally deserve a little extra special beauty products, don’t ya think?
