It has been a long, busy, insane summer. Between my daughter spending 6 of the 9 weeks away from home, it passed pretty quickly for me.
There were concerts, summer camp, family trips, a death in the family, a memorial service, a road trip to North Carolina, a family reunion, home repairs, the purchase of an above ground pool, plenty of clothing shopping, family get togethers, parties...
And none of that would have been possible if I were still working outside of the home. As I sit back and think about the things that I was able to do this summer, I realize that I would not have had the freedom to do them if I were working at my previous employer. Lack of vacation time, scheduling conflicts, etc - I have always been held hostage by a job I desperately needed in order to support our finances, but never actually enjoyed.
That changed recently, and with it, my entire life changed.
My daughter goes back to school on Monday. I am looking forward to the upcoming school year...this will be the first year in which I have the available time to accompany her on field trips, attend parent teacher workshops, pick her up from after school activities...the possibilities are endless.
I am already excited!

Happy School year! I really do count my blessings that I'm able to stay home with my boys.
