The Divergent Series has a new installment coming to theaters this month, Allegiant. In the third installment of the Divergent Series, Tris and Four head into a new world beyond the wall. A world even more dangerous than the one they both know. In honor of the upcoming release of Allegiant, I've put together a red velvet "wall" cake which would be fun to make for any premiere party or get together you might be planning before you head out to the theater!
The Divergent Series - Allegiant: Go Beyond the Wall
The third installment of the Divergent Series, Allegiant, the blockbuster franchise about a dystopian future is bursting into theaters March 18th, and it should be just as action packed and full of heart as the first two installments. After the incredible revelation at the close of Insurgent, Tris and Four must head beyond the wall around Chicago. Once outside the walls they've known for their entire lives, Tris and Four rapidly discover that even more shocking new truths await them. They must decide who they can trust, who they can't, and who they're fighting for as a battle that threatens all of humanity erupts beyond the wall. To survive the turmoil, Tris will be forced to make impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.
Take a look at the trailer and get a feel for all the awesome.
Looking to the Fringe for Red Velvet Inspiration
This is the first look at the scenery I'd like to share for my inspiration, because Four. He is a hottie. I actually thought about making a cake topper of him, but I'm not quite crafty enough to do this hunky hero justice.
You can already see a bit of the terrain in the Fringe that inspired me to make a red velvet cake, but this next picture really gives you a feel of the post-apocalyptic terrain outside the Chicago wall, and it's the reason that I decided to go with red velvet.
After seeing this picture, I knew I had to go with red velvet cake. Nothing else would fit the look and feel of the Fringe Beyond the wall, The Fringe is more than anything Tris, Four and the others had imagined. I like to call it my Post-Apocalyptic Blasted Land Velvet Cake. It tastes much better than the name implies, trust me.

The Divergent Series - Allegiant: A New Installment + A Recipe #Allegiant
Ingredients
- 1 Red Velvet boxed cake mix
- 1 canister of cream cheese frosting I prefer the whipped variety
- I can of green cake frosting
- 1 cup of Turbinado sugar
Instructions
-
Bake the cake according to package directions, but divide the batter between two or three cake pans so that the layers come out thinner. Adjust your cooking time accordingly - I used two cake pans and baked them for 10 minutes.
-
Remove from oven and allow to cook for about 30 minutes - you want them completely cool and "set" so that they're easier to cut.
-
Trim the rounded edges off of the cakes so that you have squares. Cut the square into rectangles, as you will be building "bricks" out of these pieces.
-
Begin layering the "bricks," using the frosting as the cement.
-
I added green frosting to represent grass, then sprinkled turbinado sugar to represent dirt - you get the idea!
The Divergent Series: Allegiant opens in theaters March 18.
The Divergent Series: Allegiant is headed beyond the wall March 18th, and I'm excited. This is one of my favorite film series, and I'm looking forward to the newest installment. From its original take on the human condition to the mystery surrounding it all to *sigh* Four, this series is just phenomenal. Make sure you're in theaters March 18th to check out the Divergent Series: Allegiant. And don't forget to try my Post-Apocalyptic Blasted Land Red Velvet Cake!

This is such a creative recipe for Allegiant. I've seen the previous two movies but waited until video. I'll probably do the same with this but I will consider making this dessert while we watch. If I can pull it off, which I probably can't because you are far more talented than myself.
