I love the holiday season. What’s not to love?

Cooler temperatures means more snuggling with loved ones, and I am able to pull out my adorable, comfy sweaters, coats and scarves…winter is the time of year when I get to cozy up to my husband without his body heat making me feel like I’ve cuddled up to a volcano. There’s just something about cold weather that makes it feel like the holidays, isn’t there?

I love the decorating – oh, the decorating! I usually begin pulling out the Christmas decor the day after Thanksgiving, and when we are done and the empty boxes stored back in the shed, our home looks like a winter wonderland. Minus the snow, of course.

We decorate the tree…we set out the Nutcrackers, the Snowmen, the Santas…the blankets of snow and my great-grandmother’s nativity scene. I love the surprise people experience when they walk into my bathroom and there’s a small, antique white Christmas tree adorned with red and silver ornaments on my bathroom counter!

Christmas is my favorite holiday. I love what Christmas is all about; the sense of community, the family gatherings, the love, the cheerfulness and goodwill to others – and the presents don’t hurt.

Because I have always lived in Miami, it can sometimes be hard to get into the Christmas spirit. People in other parts of the world begin getting into the Christmas spirit when it starts getting cold. Well, sometimes (like this year) it isn’t cold in December.

We get ourselves into the Christmas spirit in other ways, like with our decorating! For me, Christmas decorations are one of the biggest comforts of the holiday seasons. Snowmen, Santas, elves and holly – those things make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Glittering ornaments and twinkling Christmas lights inspire me to bake holiday treats, make out my Christmas cards, wrap gifts with extra ribbon and bows…

Watching my favorite holiday movies, like a Christmas Story, Frosty The Snowman and The Island of Misfit Toys; these holiday movies make me remember the holidays of my youth – all of the playing with my sisters and my cousins at our family Christmas gatherings, eating my grandmother’s green bean casserole, my great-grandma baking pecan tarts…

For me, the biggest comforts of the holiday season are the family gatherings. Family is what Christmas is all about to me. The adults in our family decided a few years ago to stop exchanging gifts, and we only buy gifts for the children. And you know what? I enjoy Christmas even more now! No one is rushing out searching for gifts, no one is stressing over finances…we just get together with good food and spend time together and watch our children enjoy the holidays.

These things – family, love, cheerfulness – are the comforts of the holiday season for me. What are yours?

Comfort is the perfect gift for everyone on your holiday gift list, so be sure to take advantage of Tempur-Pedic’s Buy 2, get 1 free pillow offer! I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective.

I love that you decorate in the bathrooms! I thought my family were the only ones that did that.

Never thought to have a tree in the bathroom. Hmmm…that seems interesting.
