Strayer University - Own Your Life's Path
I've been a travel and lifestyle blogger for some time now. And while I consider myself to be modest, I can honestly say that I'm pretty good at this whole blogging thing. I started out not really knowing what I was doing at all, but little by little, I learned the ropes. I spent a lot of all-nighters figuring out all the ins and outs of not only what to write, but also how to turn this into an actual business. I knew I wanted to travel, but how do I take my passion and transition that into something that can support myself and my daughter?
Starting from the bottom and working yourself up a ladder - no matter what career path you choose - is really quite satisfying. It's absolutely something to be proud of. I sure am! So I can say with confidence that I "OWN IT!"
It's been quite a roller coaster getting to where I am now in life, and this ride is far from over. Between leaving my well-paying job in Corporate America to become a housewife, to starting my own business as a blogger...to going through a divorce - one thing that I have learned from recent life experiences is that you really just don't know what the future holds, and taking steps to better yourself is never a bad choice, no matter how secure you think your future is.
Now, as I watch my teenage daughter blossom into the beautiful young woman she's becoming, I wonder about her future. Will she follow her dreams and passions to become a Zoologist, or be forced by circumstance into a job that doesn't fulfill her? She's already caught the travel bug and enjoys the adventures we are able to take together, especially the African Safari we enjoyed this spring. It combined two of her favorite things: animals and travel. I'd love to see her roll that into a career that she loves. She's a senior in high school now and we're coming up on the college years real quick. My hope is that college will send her out into the world on the right path. Attending college and seeking higher education will certainly give her a leg up on all the competition she'll face in the workforce. As she's collecting life experience now with me, she can combine the education she learns in college to help her find a career that she loves and not simply a 'job'. I'm excited for her bright future!
I've always regretted not going to college. And recently, with all the changes that I've been making in my life (going from married to newly single has been quite the adjustment), I've been seriously considering my options! It's never too late to start higher learning and furthering your education. While I consider myself successful in the blogging world, you can never be too good at what you do...there is always room for improvement. Really, what is success? My definition of success is being the best at what you do, regardless of what that is - and continuing to improve yourself and your work. And while my blog is currently doing well, this industry is fickle, and as a newly single woman, I want to have a back up plan - I'd like to be confident enough in my abilities that if I were to begin applying for jobs in the "real world," but the truth of the matter is that education also plays a vital role in obtaining a great job in today's job market.

I am ever so glad I went to college and got at least 1 degree. Even though I don't use it in a "career" sense, I am every so grateful I got it and did it. I learned a lot that I am able to still use in my daily life as a mom and homemaker. And frankly I'm grateful for the knowledge I learned and developed myself. So glad your daughter is taking such active steps to improve herself and fulfill her ambitions.

I like that online universities are really helping people who didn't have the opportunity or motivation to finish college the first time around another opportunity to learn new skills, and that they're usually affordable too!
