I participated in an Ambassador Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Lay’s. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.
You might recall my announcement of the Lay’s Do Us A Flavor contest last month, where Lay's extended an invitation to their fans all across the country to submit their ideas for the next great Lay’s potato chip flavor. Oh, and for the chance to win a $1 million grand prize!!
Don't remember what the #DoUsaFlavor contest is all about? Don't worry, I'll remind you!
T enter the Lay’s Do Us A Flavor contest, just visit the Do Us a Flavor website and submit a flavor name, up to three ingredients, the chip style you have in mind (Lay’s Original, Wavy, and/or Kettle Cooked), and a description for the flavor you're going after. The Lay's Do Us a Flavor contest ends on April 5th, 2014, so hurry and get your entries in!
After your entries are submitted, a judging panel made up of chefs, foodies and flavor experts will narrow down the contest submissions to four finalist flavors. The four finalist flavors will then be fully developed by Frito-Lay’s culinary experts and unveiled in summer 2014 and sold in stores all across the country! Then fans will vote for the finalist flavor they want to see stay on store shelves, and the finalist behind the winning flavor will win the one million dollar grand prize!! You can See Rules for the Do Us A Flavor Contest here.
While creating my own submission into the Lay's Do Us a Flavor contest, I started thinking about some of the creative dishes I've created in my own kitchen. There have been so many times that I've ended up with a great recipe sort of by accident!
A few years ago, I cooked a whole chicken for dinner one night, and we ended up with over a half a chicken after dinnertime. The next night, instead of trying to come up with different sides to feed my family the leftovers - because my family hates leftovers for some strange reason - I decided to try my hand at making a chili for dinner with chicken instead of beef.
Now, while I'd never made chicken chili before, I knew that it was a real thing and people made it all the time! I went through my kitchen cabinets and grabbed anything I thought would taste good in it: a can of Rotel with green chiles, a can of black beans and a can of dark red kidney beans, a jar of tomato sauce, a packet of taco seasoning and a few teaspoons of chili powder. I threw it all into a pot and shredded the leftover chicken, added it to the mix and let it simmer for a few hours.
The result was an amazing chili - it tasted every bit as good as the beef chili I had been making for years! It quickly became a family favorite and I make it about once a month now! Over the years, I've experimented with different seasonings, until I came across an actual white chicken chili seasoning mix at the grocery store. I add all of the veggies, beans, chicken and that seasoning packet into the slow cooker now, and dinner practically makes itself!
With as often as I cook, that white chicken chili isn't the only flavor that I think would be fantastic on a potato chip!
I have a ton of ideas for sweet or savory chip flavors!
What about turning my favorite Green Chili Cornbread into a potato chip flavor? Or my Braised chicken thighs? How about Banana Pecan Waffles? Why not? The chicken and waffles flavor potato chips tasted great!
Cheesy Spinach Puff Pastries or Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread? The possibilities are endless, everything can taste great as a potato chip!
What are your ideas for a new potato chip flavor? Don't miss your chance to have your idea come to life in the Do Us a Flavor Contest - you never know, you could win a million dollars!

I used to think every flavor had been done, then they came out with Chicken & Waffles. I was wrong. Looking forward to trying the winning flavor!

You are making me hungry! Hmm... a new chip flavor? Perhaps I'm on my own here, but a mix of cheddar and bbq.

In Canada they have Ketchup flavored Lays. They are the best and it's probably a good thing they don't have them here in the states. lol However, sriracha has become a quick favorite in our house too.
