Happy almost-Valentine’s Day! I was surprised with a beautiful bouquet of long stemmed red roses and chocolate dipped strawberries by Chris today! Isn’t that sweet? I have to be honest, after 13 years together, Chris isn’t always on top of his game when it comes to the romance department. I can’t say that I’m any better! I want to make more effort in the romance department this year, and I’m encouraging Chris to do the same. It can be so hard to keep the fire alive in a long-term relationship, and as most married couples have learned, a little romance goes a long way!
I flat out told Chris that I wanted flowers and candy for Valentine’s day this year. Why did I come right out and tell him? Because I didn’t get anything last year…not even a card. Instead of being sad and resentful, I decided to put it out there and TELL HIM what I wanted. Of course he went completely above and beyond, which tickled me pink!
I thought I’d share a few tips for getting the romance you want in your own relationship. Ladies, keep this in mind: ask and you shall receive.
Tips For Getting the Romance You Want
Forget the Helpful Hints and Tell Your Partner What You Want! I have found that dropping hints does nothing…I have to tell Chris, “I want flowers and chocolates for Valentine’s Day.” Don’t get an attitude, just tell them what will make you happy! Sometimes men just don’t think about these things and a lot of men don’t get the hint.
Make Your Partner Feel SPECIAL. We women like to feel special and told how beautiful we are, how important we are…but we often don’t realize that our partners would appreciate the same thing. A little compliment here and there makes your partner feel special, and that’s often enough to encourage them to reciprocate.
Set the Mood for Romance. When does your partner find you the most irresistible? It’s probably not when you’re in your sweats with your hair in a pony tail, right? My “uniform” has consisted of my sweatpants and a tee shirt, with my hair up in a bun. While it’s comfortable, it’s not exactly an outfit that inspires Chris to drop what he’s doing and give me the attention I crave. I’m making an effort to actually wear real clothes while I’m working from home lately. It’s a small price to pay for an impromptu date night out on a random Tuesday evening!
A bouquet of beautiful flowers goes a long way to igniting the romance in your life, guys. I will probably be talking about the Valentine’s Day roses Chris brought me for weeks! Of course, you don’t have to wait until Valentine’s Day rolls around each year to make your partner feel like a million bucks. Fresh Flowers has lovely roses available all year long!
