The Fontainebleau hotel was the place to be on a few weeks ago because that’s where the Rio 2 Blue Carpet Event was taking place and that’s exactly where I was too. Well after screening Rio 2 of course (which is a must see when it hits theaters on April 11th).
With Miami Beach as a beautiful backdrop, I made my way through the crowd so that I could see the cast of Rio make their grand entrance on the blue carpet. It’s one thing to see these actors on screen and it’s another to get to see them in person, so I wanted to be front and center to experience it all.
George Lopez (Rafael) was the first to arrive and while I couldn’t hear what he was saying during the interview, I can only imagine the jokes he was saying with the way the reporters were laughing.
Jake T. Austin (Fernando) looked handsome in his blue suit and Anne Hathaway (Jewel) looked stunning and poised as she made her way through the interviews. Her dress was beautiful and her shoes were too!
Kristin Chenoweth (Gabi) & Jemaine Clement (Nigel) also made their way through the blue carpet. Kristin was smiling from ear to ear the whole time.
Tracy Morgan (Luis) arrived with his wife and their daughter and even though he was busy doing his interviews he kept checking up on his family and made it a point to look over at his fans and even take a pic or two.
Andy Garcia (Eduardo) has such a presence about him both on screen and in person.
Jamie Foxx (Nico) arrived with his children and made it a point to recognize them and introduce them to others (at one point he even had them on stage with him).
The ladies went wild when Rodrigo Santono (Tulio) arrived!
I loved seeing the cast greet one another once it was all done and they made their way down to the Sumba dance floor where dancers would be attempting to set a new Guinness World Record. Yes!
There were professional Sumba dancers there (looking the part) and Samba participants dressed in black and white shirts who had all been practicing a specific Samba routine for that night’s festivities. I believe they had to prepare a samba dance routine that was more than 5 minutes long and I am happy to share that they completed their mission and a new Guinness World Record was set that night…all inspired by Rio 2.
Without skipping a beat (literally), a special concert began.
It started with Janelle Monae taking the stage and singing Rio 2’s featured song, “What Is Love?”
At one point, even Andy Garcia was on stage playing the Bongos.
The Rio 2 Blue Carpet Event was filled with tremendous energy, great music and special memories!
