Rethinking Birth Control

Birth control is a wonderful invention, and there are tons of options for those seeking protection. However, it’s extremely important to know what you’re taking. Even if a doctor recommends the pill to you instead of the implant, you should research every option because, really, only you know what’s best for you.

Here are a few things you should absolutely know before diving into the pill, an IUD, or the implant:
Hormone sensitivity. Some pills are loaded with estrogen, which can mess up your body. Some side effects of this are just things like weight gain and spotting between periods but one more serious Yasmin side effect is severe blood clotting. If you think you may be sensitive to hormones, go for a low dosage pill or the implant, which has a low, steady flow of hormones.

Can you remember to take it on time? One of the reasons women still get pregnant on the pill is because they do not take it at the same time, every day. In fact, some women get so behind that they end up taking a handful of pills once a week instead of taking one every day. If you can’t remember to take the pill, look into other options. The previously mentioned implant does not require you to think about timing and neither does the IUD. There are also other options, which you can look into here.

Maybe it’s not right for you. Sometimes, partners and spouses, and even friends and parents, can pressure you into thinking you need to be on some form of contraception. While it’s important to have safe sex, and protect yourself if you aren’t ready for a baby, you don’t necessarily have to be on chemicals to do that. There are several methods for keeping up with your fertile days, such as the calendar method. Even on the pill, you should keep up with your cycle, but it’s especially important if you aren’t on any sort of contraception.

These are just a few things you should think about. If and when you decide to get on birth control, talk to your doctor and get advice about different options.
