Ensure that your pets receive normal veterinary care. Your pets should see the vet once a year, at minimum. Have your pets groomed on a regular basis. Even if you have "inside pets," they still need regular baths and if they're long haired like my Shetland Sheepdogs, they need regular brushing as well. Don't forget to clip their nails and brush their teeth too! You can use dental treats to help keep their teeth and gums healthy, but most dogs need to have their teeth cleaned by a veterinarian every few years. 

Feed your pets a healthy diet. Pet food can be expensive, especially when you have multiple pets in the household. Believe me - we have 7 pets! While you may be tempted to sacrifice quality to keep costs low, it is far better in the long run to feed your pets the best pet food you can afford. 

Give your pets plenty of exercise! Cats are pretty sedentary animals, and there's not a lot you can do to make them get up from their nap and get their exercise.
