Phase 2 of My Weight Loss Journey - Doing it on My Own With Diet-to-Go

Whenever I hear about new diet foods I automatically assume that they are going to be flavorless, dull and unappetizing. Traditionally, special foods that are low calorie, low fat or generally good for you just aren't that great. I agreed to try Diet-to-Go a few weeks ago because while it is food created especially for people on diets, their recipes are created by chefs and are Epicurious-rated number one! Anything that Epicurious approves of must be awesome, right?

    #diettogo diet-to-go

As you may recall, I have been working with a doctor on a special low-fat diet plan since November. While I have been pretty successful - I've lost 30 pounds! - I have reached the point where I want to stop taking the appetite-suppressing medication and continue on my own. I know it is going to be more difficult this way, but I feel that ultimately, it will be better for me to lose the last ten pounds without appetite suppressants. I am already used to portion control and have learned to listen to my body and tell the difference between wanting to eat and actually being physically hungry. That was the hardest part!

One of my biggest hurdles while on this low calorie, low fat diet is finding meals to make for the family that also work with my diet. My food choices are limited, and most of the staples that the family enjoys just don't work for me. It can be really difficult to maintain my diet plan when I bake a lasagna for Chris and Angeline and I am stuck eating a baked chicken breast and carrots.

    Booooring...

The Diet-to-Go diet meal delivery service works great for someone like me who isn't eating what the rest of her family eats. Of course they are also great if you just don't have time to cook yourself healthy meals, or want prepackaged, healthy lunches to bring with you to the office so you're not tempted to hit the fast food drive through on your lunch break!

Diet-to-Go offers three meal plans: traditional (which is low-fat), vegetarian and low carb. The vegetarian meal plan is also great for diabetics!

Every meal is completely balanced and portion controlled, and includes condiments. Some of the meals include a drink, like an orange juice with breakfast, or a V8 with lunch.

Each Diet-to-Go plan offers a few options:

    • 5 days of breakfast, lunch and dinner
    • 7 days of breakfast, lunch and dinner
    • 5 days of lunch and dinner
    • 7 days of lunch and dinner

There are specialized meal plans for men and women, and they start at just $95.99 for the 5 day plan, or $131.59 for the 7 day meal plan. I know that might seem like a lot of money for a week's worth of food for just one person, but it's really not that much, when you think about it. I was spending a ton of money - over $100 a week - on my special eating plan formulated by my doctor. That doesn't include my $60 payment to the doctor and the $20 appetite suppressant prescription fee. I would actually pay less with the Diet-to-Go traditional, low-fat meal plan for the 7 days of breakfast, lunch and dinner!

That is one of the best parts of the Diet-to-Go diet meal delivery plan: all you have to do is eat their food to lose weight. There are no appointments, no check-ins, no meetings, no calorie counting, measuring, etc. The meals are a complete diet plan in themselves. Just eat them and you can lose the weight! While results will vary based on how much weight you need to lose, how much you exercise and any health issues you have, the traditional low-fat meal plan may allow you to lose between 2 and 5 pounds per week.

That is exactly how much I was losing under the care of a doctor!

Diet-to-Go ships precooked, packaged meals directly to your door and all you have to do it pop them in the microwave and reheat them!

    #diettogo Diet to go

I received a sampling of the low fat menu options that included things like a pancake breakfast, New Brunswick stew dinner, curried shrimp with veggies and stuffed potatoes!

Each package is labeled by day and meal, and includes the nutritional information right on the front, with a break down of specific ingredients on the back of the package. The heating instructions are on the front of the package as well.

If you want to eat it right out of the package, of course you can do that! Goodbye, dirty dishes!

    diet to go packages

I've opted to heat each meal and then plate it, as I enjoy sitting down to a more traditional meal.

If I were still working in an office, I would likely just eat it in the container so I didn't have to worry about doing dishes!

    diet to go breakfast

I began on Wednesday with the pancake breakfast, which was so tasty! My first Diet-to-Go breakfast included two pancakes, one turkey sausage and a berry balsamic syrup.

Now, I have to be honest and tell you that I have never eaten turkey sausage before, so I have nothing to compare this to! While it did not taste like normal sausage, it was still good and I would definitely eat it again. The pancakes were light and fluffy and that syrup? YUM! I don't usually put syrup on my pancakes or waffles, but since this was berry, and I am a big fan of berries, I used it. I am so glad that I did!

The best part? This breakfast was only 250 calories. That's not bad for pancakes and sausage!

    diet to go dinner options

My favorite meal was the Brunswick stew with chicken and turkey. I was a bit nervous about this one because it had lima beans, which I don't care for, but it looked so good that I just ate them anyway. While I can't quite say that I am a fan of lima beans, the stew was so good that I didn't even mind eating them.

The only meal I didn't enjoy was the curried shrimp, and that was because I couldn't eat it due to an allergy to shrimp. What I particularly loved about the food - aside from how easy it makes dieting - is that everything tasted like a homemade meal. That's because the chefs at Diet-to-Go have been crafting these recipes for 20 years and everything is freshly prepared using only quality ingredients. Their experience and dedication to providing delicious meals was obvious in the meals I sampled!

I never felt like I was missing out on anything when I cooked dinner for Chris and Angeline and couldn't eat it myself. I actually looked forward to my own Diet-to-Go meals!

How often can you really say that about "diet food?"

You can find out more about Diet-to-Go on DietToGo.com, and they are even offering a 15% discount on your first order right now by using the code FirstOrder at checkout!

Oh, and about the weight loss? I lost 1.2 pounds last week, which isn't bad considering that I went out for dinner and drinks with friends Saturday and Chris and I attended a food truck rally on Sunday!
