You guys know how much I love my neighborhood Walgreens, right? I’m lucky enough to have a Walgreens less than a mile away, and two more Walgreens within a 2 mile radius. Between picking up groceries, using the Walgreens photo labs and the Walgreens healthcare clinics and Walgreens flu shot availability, I can pretty much do it all with a quick trip down the street!
When I worked in an office, when one person caught the flu, it would quickly spread the entire building thanks to the closeness of Corporate America cubicle life. It was so bad that our office manager would ask everyone to stay home if they were ill – and unlike most management decrees, he actually meant it. Before I left to become a stay at home mom, our office actually began hiring nurses to come in each year at the beginning of flu season and they gave us flu shots for free (it wasn’t required, though). That one flu shot can save you a world of hurt – and missed days at the office. Not to mention how horrible it is to catch the flu at work and then bring it home and pass it on to your spouse and kids!
I think that a lot of people don’t get the flu shot because they think they have to make an appointment with their primary care doctor – but that’s just not the case anymore! Walgreens offers the flu shot, among other vaccines like the Hepatitis vaccine, Shingles Vaccine, HPC Vaccine – and you don’t have to visit a Walgreens Healthcare Clinic to get them! Regular Walgreens stores with a pharmacy usually offer adult vaccines and you don’t need an appointment or insurance to get them. However, if you do have insurance, you can use your insurance to get a flu shot (or any other vaccine or immunization) at Walgreens!
I took a drive to the Walgreens down the street to do a little research for this blog post, and while they don’t have a Walgreens Healthcare Clinic, they do offer vaccinations, including the flu shot! You can check out my visit in this Google+ album.
You can miss out on so much when you catch the flu, or shingles – or any of those other nasty illnesses that can easily be prevented by getting immunized! We have a large family and there is always some fun gathering going on. Today is my dad’s 56th birthday and we’re all getting together for a BBQ. Chris and I are heading down to Key West this weekend with friends, and next week, Angeline and I are flying out to Washington D.C. for a press event. The schedule just gets more packed from there, with Angeline’s birthday coming up, Halloween, etc! Keeping up on your immunizations, including getting a flu shot, means that you’re less likely to catch something nasty that will prevent you from missing work and missing out on LIFE!
Having the flu shot and other vaccines and immunizations available at your neighborhood Walgreens is so much more convenient than getting them at the doctor’s office! You don’t need an appointment, and you aren’t restricted to a doctor’s office hours. You can simply walk-in to Walgreens to get a flu shot or immunization during their regular pharmacy hours, which is usually 8 am to 8 pm in most stores around here.
Get A Shot. Give A Shot.
Walgreens has partnered with the United Nations Foundation’s Shot at Life campaign. That means that now through October 14, 2013, every person who receives a flu shot or any immunization at a Walgreens store, Walgreens and the United Nations Foundation’s Shot at Life program will help supply a life saving vaccine to a child in a developing country! How wonderful is that?
The campaign slogan is Get A Shot. Give A Shot. Just imagine, all those people who will be getting their flu shots at Walgreens will be helping a child who desperately needs a vaccine! The Walgreens and United Nations Foundation’s Shot at Life partnership will provide up to three million vaccines to children for life threatening diseases – we’re not talking flu shots, either. We’re talking serious vaccines like measles and polio!
If you’re going to get a flu shot or other immunization, please consider getting it done at Walgreens! Not only will it be easier to work into your schedule, but you can do a great thing and give a child a desperately needed vaccination as well.
