I am a native. That’s right, I was born and pretty much raised in the sunny city of Miami. There are things about the city that drive me crazy, like the rush hour traffic and the mosquitoes during summertime. But after spending a few days dealing with LA rush hour traffic and fighting off mosquitoes the size of horse flies in the Caribbean, I can’t complain about those things anymore! Miami is paradise on earth, and I am so excited to tell you why Miami is my favorite place and I #LoveThisCity as much as I do!
You Can Have Fun in the Sun All Year Long in Miami!
One of the reasons why I #LoveThisCity is that Miami is truly a tropical paradise. While it’s super hot and humid during the summer, that just makes long days at the beach that much more enjoyable. We have plenty of beaches to choose from too! You can enjoy a memorable picnic on the beach with your family on Key Biscayne’s Crandon Beach, or hang out at a trendy hot spot and enjoy water sports on South Beach!
No matter what you’re looking for, our beaches are fun and full of locals and tourists alike year-round. And unlike the beaches on the West Coast of the US, you can actually enjoy the warm Atlantic waters off the many beaches in Miami! Now you understand why my favorite place to spend a hot summer afternoon is on the beach, right?
There are Tons of Family-Friendly Attractions in Miami!
I’ve lived in Miami almost my entire life, and as much as I #LoveThisCity and exploring, there are still things that I haven’t gotten around to doing. We have so many parks, museums, children’s museums, nature trails, gardens and attractions that I can’t even choose which one is my favorite place to go to on weekends!
Whether it’s our famous Zoo Miami, the Everglades Alligator Farm, Miami Seaquarium or Monkey Jungle, you’re bound to have a memorable day with your family out and about in Miami.
Of course it’s not all about the animals in Miami! We also have several botanical gardens, as well as nature trails and parks!
The Florida Everglades is just on the outskirts of Miami and you could easily spend an entire day exploring either on air boat or by driving along – you can even bike along Shark Valley for a memorable family experience unlike any other!
Cultural Diversity – Just Another Reason Why I #LoveThisCity of Miami!
Where else but Miami can you find such diversity? We are a cultural melting pot, and we are proud of it. No matter where you come from, Miami greets you with open arms – even if they are a little sweaty. I’m American, but I don’t have a single American friend in Miami (with the exception of a few friends from high school, but I don’t get to see them anymore). I have friends from all over the states, and all over the world: a few of my best friends are from Trinidad, France and New York – and a few Polish, Vietnamese, Mexican and Brazilians round us out. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Due to our cultural diversity, we have some of the most fascinating people in Miami. How could that not make it my favorite place? I #LoveThisCity because of its different religions, different languages, different customs, and most delicious, different cuisines! Where else would you be able to find a Caribbean Mart and a Halal Mart in the same shopping center?
Miami Takes its Food Seriously!
Our cultural diversity lends itself to some of the best food on earth – no matter what your taste buds! No matter where you’re traveling from, you can find just about anything you want in Miami. One of the biggest reasons I #LoveThisCity is that our food is amazing. When I hear friends from small towns complain about their dining options, I just can’t relate. I mean, I can even find fresh produce on the side of the street – that someone picked from the trees in their backyard.
When I get a hankering for Vietnamese food, I can easily find it within a few miles. When I want Italian, I can be sure to find a mom and pop restaurant down the street, and my waitress actually speaks Italian! Talk about a priceless benefit! After a memorable trip to Jamaica a few years ago, I realized that I’d fallen in love with Jamaican patties and jerk chicken. Guess what? There’s a Jamaican cafe less than a mile away from me!
Our love of delicious, authentic cuisine carries out of the restaurants into the Miami food truck scene. Sure, you can find cupcake food trucks, and hot dogs and tacos, but our Miami food truck scene goes so much farther than that! Gourmet fare, exotic ingredients – you can have it all when visiting a Miami food truck rally!
I #LoveThisCity and all of the Crazy Folks in it!
One thing visitors can never say after they’ve visited Miami is that our people are boring. Miami prides itself on an “I’ll do whatever I want” kind of attitude and if you know me, then you know that’s just one more reason why for me to #LoveThisCity of Miami – it’s basically my personal motto.
We wore fluorescent neon clothes when it was considered tacky. When the Florida Marlins won the World Series, people called out of work to attend a parade that shut down most of Downtown Miami. When the Miami Heat won the NBA Playoffs, we shot off fireworks – on a school night, when it was nowhere near New Year’s Eve or the Fourth of July.
We are crazy, and we are okay with that! Many people don’t realize that in addition to having alligators in Miami, we also have crocodiles – and while they aren’t nearly as widespread and common to find around town as alligators, they are pretty common near the water. Does that stop Miami locals from fishing? Not a chance.
After all that I’ve shared, can you see why I #LoveThisCity so much?
