What Makes Your Thanksgiving Special? #MyKindOfHoliday

Thanksgiving is just weeks away, and unlike other holidays that focus on the commercial, Thanksgiving is a holiday about celebrating friends and family, which makes it even more special. I come from a big family, and Thanksgiving has always been about gathering together to share our appreciation for all of the good that has happened throughout the year. Over the years, we've included out of town friends, friends whose family don't celebrate the holidays - it's become our own sort of Friendsgiving!

We play musical chairs during the holidays every year. I'm blessed in that I live near the majority of my family, and we host different holiday events at each other's homes - we take turns entertaining, but no matter who hosts the event, we all pitch in to help!

My favorite part of preparing for Thanksgiving (aside from the meal planning of course), is helping to set the table. I love helping my mom add decorative touches to make the meal feel more special. She has a huge collection of seasonal dinnerware, tablecloths and little decorative items that really make you feel special when you sit down to hold hands with your family to give thanks before the big meal.

I especially love these place settings available from Target! Aren't they beautiful? I think they're perfect for Thanksgiving because they embody that winter feel, and can easily be reused for our Christmas dinner table!

Because our family is so large, it's nearly impossible to have a set of dinnerware large enough for everyone to have matching dishes. My mom has a collection of dishes that while different, still come together to make the table setting seem like it flows.

I love mixing and matching dishes to come up with an interesting table setting!

Our Thanksgiving day is simple but fun. We all meet at either my parent's house or my cousins's house - depending on how many people are attending dinner. Some years my father's friends from out of town join us, sometimes my best friend and her boyfriend join us, sometimes others join in. We all bring a dish or two and serve Thanksgiving dinner potluck style.

With at least 20 people coming together to celebrate Thanksgiving each year - and that's just the family - it's always a fun and festive occasion! After dinner, the kids run and play in the yard, some watch television together, and the rest work on cleaning up and sitting around chatting.

I can't think of a better way to spend the holiday!

We do not have a large family, but it is so great we live near each other and can get together. I love the place setting too!

There's nothing better than family at Thanksgiving, other than friends of course. I just got a call from my son today that he will be able to come for dinner so I am thrilled. Have a great day!

My favorite part about the holidays is the sitting around and chatting. Even when I was a kid it was my favorite. That to me is true "quality time" with the family.

Commercially, Thanksgiving is such an over-looked holiday. It's still one of my favorites. A home-cooked meal with family gathered around the table...cannot get much more special than that!

What a beautiful family. My favorite part of our family tradition is going around and saying what we are thankful for also listening to christmas music because its the night we set up our tree.
