In WILD, director Jean-Marc Vallée (DALLAS BUYERS CLUB), Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon (WALK THE LINE) and Academy Award nominated screenwriter Nick Hornby (AN EDUCATION) bring bestselling author Cheryl Strayed’s extraordinary adventure to the screen.

    WILD-onesheet

After years of reckless behavior, a heroin addiction and the destruction of her marriage, Strayed makes a rash decision.  Haunted by memories of her mother Bobbi (Academy Award nominee Laura Dern) and with absolutely no experience, she sets out to hike more than a thousand miles on the Pacific Crest Trail all on her own.

    FOX_3558.psd

WILD powerfully reveals her terrors and pleasures --as she forges ahead on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.

Check out the WILD movie trailer!

    Release: December 3, 2014

    Directed by: Jean-Marc Vallée

    Screenplay by: Nick Hornby

Based on the book by: Cheryl Strayed

Produced by: Reese Witherspoon, Bruna Papandrea, Bill Pohlad

Cast: Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Thomas Sadoski, Michiel Huisman, Gaby Hoffmann, Kevin Rankin

    Notes about the Film

An official selection at the Toronto International Film Festival 2014 and Telluride Film Festival 2014, WILD is based on the inspiring true life story of Cheryl Strayed and her best-selling book WILD –the book Oprah chose for the re-launch of her book club!

Starring Academy Award® nominated Laura Dern and written by Academy Award® nominated Nick Hornby, WILD not only stars, but was produced by Reese Witherspoon! This story of self-discovery and redemption will touch your heart and inspire you!

    WILD-Image3

The film was shot on the actual Pacific Crest Trail – the toughest and wildest through-trail in America – deserts, mountains, plains, extreme high and low elevations all exist on the PCT! Jean-Marc wanted to shoot 360 degrees of nature with the right angles so there was no cutting of the film. Jean-Marc didn’t want traditional score, but rather a soundtrack that got Cheryl through the quiet and tougher times of her hike. The music in the film is a reflection of how people use their favorite songs to get them through good times and bad.

My family still tells the story of the time I cajoled them into driving a full-size van 10 miles up a narrow, rutted Forest Service dirt road to get to a trailhead at the edge of the Kalmiopsis wilderness...the white-knuckle drive was apparently more memorable than the hike itself! From my own point of view, making the decision to leave an unsafe marriage with my 1 1/2 year old child was far more difficult - like stepping off a cliff with clouds obscuring the valley floor below. That step, however, led me to become more myself than I ever could have imagined.

My husband and I took a trip to Portland, Oregon. Might seem funny to most but, I had never flown before. I cried (literally) before and during the flight out of fear. I cried afterwards because I had conquered one of my greatest fears. I now have the courage to go anywhere and to try and do anything. I have taken several different kind of trips since, some with a little fear but, all with a whole lot of courage.

It would have to be going with my husband 5 hours from home and family to have surgery. It was suppose to be a week stay and we didn't get to leave until 68 days later. Neither one of us expect to be gone from home that long.

I've had a pretty quiet life. I'd say the most adventurous trip I've taken was with some girlfriends one night when we decided to drive into the city (Chicago). It was pretty neat, and we saw a lot of things we usually didn't see down in the suburbs.

The summer between my sophomore and junior year of college, my friend had been planning a trip to see her long-distance boyfriend in Indiana (we live in Florida). He called her TWO DAYS before she was supposed to leave on a three-week trip to break up with her, saying he had been seeing another woman for a few months now. So she asked me if I wanted to go on a road trip with her because she had already saved the money and made a bunch of plans. I agreed and we were off! We ended up following one of our favorite bands for a few tour stops, camped in the mountains, and visited a bunch of landmarks. We had a blast and it was one of the most memorable trips of my life.
