A Look at the New Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabook #WindowsChampions

As part of the Microsoft Windows Champions ambassador program, I was sent a complimentary Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabook to review this year! Not a bad way to start off the year, right? As you might recall from the series of posts I did in 2013 on my Acer tablet, I had a bit of a rocky start with Windows 8. Fortunately, that experience actually helped me more than I realized! By the time I received my Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabook, I felt like an old pro with Windows 8 and totally fell in love with the platform!

The Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabook is a touchscreen, and I was a little nervous about transitioning from using a regular laptop to a touchscreen. Granted, I’ve been using an iPad as my travel laptop for years now, but even with that, I’ve mostly used a Bluetooth keyboard that I found for it. I’ve been using the Acer Ultrabook for about a month now, even taking it with me to Vegas, and I still haven’t used the touchscreen that much. It is nice to have that option, but I am so used to the keyboard…well, we do what we are used to, right?

It is nice to have that option though!

At home, I use a wireless mouse instead of the keypad most of the time. I use a Logitech wireless mouse that connects via USB, but when I travel, I mostly use the touchscreen for scrolling and whatnot. One of these days I will use the touchscreen for more than that – if I find any particular thing that I find is really helpful while I’m reviewing this Acer Ultrabook, I’ll be sure to let you know in my next update!

My favorite thing about the Acer Ultrabook, aside from the Windows 8, is how light it is! After getting myself all connected and using it for a few days, I realized that I won’t need my iPad when I travel anymore. It’s THAT LIGHT!
On the way to Vegas, I just threw it in my tote bag and it didn’t seem to weigh me down anymore than my iPad in it’s Bluetooth keyboard case did for the last few years. It’s also so light that when I want to work in bed in the evenings, or just on really lazy mornings, I can have my Windows tablet PC on my lap and it doesn’t overheat and make me feel like there’s a sauna on top of me.

The Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabook comes with a lightweight protective case so I didn’t need to buy a laptop bag, which is a nice bonus! Once we get new devices, it seems like the accessories end up costing a bundle, so saving on a case was pretty awesome.
The Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabook seriously is an Ultrabook – it

is so slim and actually looks pretty, unlike my clunky old laptop!

It has

up to 7 hours of battery life. Yes, SEVEN hours! I was able to get through a full traveling day on the way to Vegas without it dying on me. I can’t say that about my old laptop…I love that each new generation of Windows devices bring us even more improved battery life!

More from the Manufacturer

The aluminum unibody plus Gorilla® Glass 2 design of the Aspire S7 makes it incredibly slender, light and strong. At less than 12.9 mm, it’s the thinnest Ultrabook™ with a super-crisp Full HD1 touch display on the market. And, the dual-torque hinge keeps the display very stable when you use it for touch control.

The Aspire S7’s Full HD1 display generates deep detail and puts 10-point touch control at your fingertips. This Ultrabook™ is made for teamwork: Open it to 180 degrees, punch a hotkey to flip the view, and you’re in shape to share. Take the show to a big screen, wire-free, via newly featured WiDi connectivity.
About The Windows 8 Operating System
If you aren’t familiar with Windows 8 yet, don’t let that deter you from considering a new laptop! After taking a while to get used to Windows 8, I am a huge fan now! I’ve always been a PC, corny as that little slogan sounds, it’s totally true! The way I see it, Windows 8 basically allows you to use your laptop like a regular Windows computer, but it brings the ease of apps to the party as well. You can easily switch back and forth between the screen with the tiles or the Desktop version until you get the hang of it.
Windows 8 apps work kind of like bookmarking your favorite sites and services to your homescreen. You know how when you download a new program onto your computer, you get a prompt asking if you want a desktop shortcut? That is essentially how I use Windows 8 apps on my new laptop. Sites that I go to every day, like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest – those are apps I have right in the front screen. No more waiting for websites to load, no more looking through bookmarks – it’s all right there with Windows 8!

I’ll be sharing a post soon with how I set up my Windows 8 laptop, so you can learn more about how to use Windows 8! Check back next month so that you don’t miss it!

The Acer Aspire S7 13.3-Inch Touchscreen Ultrabook model that I have retails for about $1,499.99, and you can find it, along with other models, on the Acer website.

I just received a new laptop for Christmas and it has been my first experience using Windows 8. I LOVE IT! What a huge difference and upgrade. I don’t know a lot about the ACER brand but it looks as though they really have something to offer.

Even though you don’t use the touchscreen that much, it’s still awesomely cool that it’s an option. I use my Windows 8 from the desktop side more than through the apps though. I’m so traditional, lol.

A touchscreen lap top? boy I didn’t even know that was possible. I currently use an old Mac laptop and need to upgrade to something newer. I’ll have to check this out more…

That looks like a sleek laptop. I’ve used Acer laptops in the past and have always been impressed by how they run. Actually, my last Acer was on the Vista platform and it was actually the best at running that…platform.

I have this computer and it’s been wonderful. I love that I can keep it on my lap and I never feel the heat. And the SSD is AMAZING!

My only issue is that randomly the computer will just shut off. Has that happened to you?? It has happened since day one :/

I know what you’re talking about! If it goes into sleep mode, it is sometimes impossible to get it turn back to life, right? I did research and found that it’s a Windows 8 glitch, so I changed my settings to never go into sleep mode. LOL Now I just turn it off (power down) when I am done using it so it doesn’t get “stuck.”

Sleep mode even when I’m am busy? That’s weird. How do I turn that off? Maybe if I download 8.1 it wouldn’t do it anymore if it’s an 8 glitch.
I’m glad to hear it’s not just MY computer though!
It’s not REALLY a big deal because I just press the power button and thanks to the SSD the computer instantly comes back on with all the internet windows still open but it’s just annoying :/

I love it. I was thinking about doing the Apple route but the hubs hates apple products he might be on board with this.

We’re in the market for a new laptop and we’re definitely weighing our options between several models. I love the touchscreen (and since this would be for my husband, I’m thinking he’d love it too. He loves his tablet and this has that kind of feel!)

I would love to try out a touchscreen laptop. I am kinda scared of moving up to Windows 8 though – creature of habit here. 🙂

That’s the nice thing about Windows 8 – you can just use the desktop feature and it’s just like Windows 7. Then you can play around with Windows 8 when you want to get used to it! 🙂

It would be nice to have something so light! There was a bit of a learning curve for me with using Windows 8 but now that I’m used to it, I actually love it. Though I do think it works best with a touchscreen(which I unfortunately do not have).

I have this too- won it from bing last summer. It’s amazing. I was almost afraid of it at first it’s so light! Once you start to enjoy the touchscreen you won’t ever go back. It’s just so much better.

I wanted something like this so bad but price made me shy away. I love how light you describe it as. I’m wondering if I just should have bit the bullet and got that.

As I sit here with my nameless laptop heating up my lap as I read this post I wish I had the new Acer Aspire. I am already a Windows user this sounds like a great option for an upgrade.

I have really fallen in love with windows 8.1. I used to have an Acer, I like how much thinner they have become.
