I am being compensated by DOLE® Fruit in Jars for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are my own.
With summer in full swing...and an eight day Caribbean cruise right around the corner...I've been trying extra hard to eat healthier and get in as much exercise as I can. I did pretty well while in Napa Valley last week, taking along healthy meal replacement bars and trying to avoid desserts as much as possible. Granted, it was Napa Valley, and wine isn't exactly calorie free, but I did manage to drink a ton of water and I did a lot of walking the entire time I was there.
Being that it was Napa Valley, some of that walking was uphill. Or up a mountain...Moon Mountain, to be exact!
My appetite was totally thrown off when I got home to Miami. I know it's only a three hour time difference, but it really had an effect on my appetite. I went from eating breakfast, lunch and dinner each day on West Coast time to coming home and being starving at the weirdest of times. For instance: midnight. Back in Napa, I was eating dinner around 9, which means that when I am making dinner for Chris and Angeline, I am not hungry, but after everyone goes to bed and I am trying to recover from jetlag, I am starving! I've found that it's much healthier to grab a healthy yogurt and fruit bowl for my late night snacking, and the new DOLE® Fruit in Jars works just perfectly!
DOLE® Fruit in Jars come in Mandarin Oranges, Pineapple Chunks, Tropical Fruit, Sliced Peaches and Mixed Fruit. Our local grocery store only stocked the Mandarin Oranges, Pineapple Chunks and Sliced Peaches, which suited me just fine because those are my favorites! You can find out which varieties are available in your local stores here.
Now, I do love fresh fruit BUT I always seem to buy more than we are really going to eat, and there ends up being wasted, overripe fruit constantly on the counter. These Dole Fruit in Jars work so well for my family because they come in a resealable lid, so we can just scoop out as much as we want and then stick them back in the fridge! All of the fruit is picked at the peak of ripeness, so it's just like grabbing a fresh peach out of the fruit bowl - only these peaches are already sliced for you and there's no sticker to peel off the outside.
Don't ask, I may or may not have eaten a few stickers in my day.
Each jar has five full servings of fruit and comes packed in 100% fruit juice. I like to avoid added sugars when I can, so I love that these are packed in juice and not syrup!
Oh, and guess what? Dole Fruit in Jars is non-GMO. I don't know how important that is to all of you, but I like to buy non-GMO whenever I can, and I love that I can get a jar full of non-GMO fruit, packed in juice instead of syrup, for just about $2.99 a jar. That's about as inexpensive as it gets for wholesome food!
5 Days of Summertime Food and Fitness
- Monday: Get Your Heart Racing! Start your week off with a bang and get your heartbeat up! Go for a jog, hit the elliptical with all you've got - do whatever you normally do, but kick it up a notch!
- Tuesday: Concentrate on building muscle. While Chris goes to the gym for weight training, I prefer to work out at home. I've just never been comfortable at the gym. I have a set of 10 lb weights and it suits me just fine! You can even find videos on YouTube for easy to follow weight training routines.
- Wednesday: Get Your Fruit on! You can't rely solely on exercise to get in shape. You also need to eat a well-balanced diet rich in protein, fruits and veggies! I love grabbing a non-fat Greek Yogurt and topping it with some sliced peaches and a little honey for sweetness. Hint hint: Dole Fruit in Jars has five servings of peaches in each jar!
- Thursday: Go Outside! Head to the park and take a nature walk, or take the dogs for a run at the local dog park. It's a great way to get outside and enjoy the summer weather and get a little old fashioned exercise too!
- Friday: Reward Yourself! After a long week of eating right and exercising, reward yourself! Set aside a few hours to relax and read a book, catch up on your favorite TV show, go to the beach with friends or the family - do whatever it is that makes you happy!

Yup, that is a teeny bit healthier than the bowl of ice cream that I usually go for at 10 pm!! I will have to give it a try 🙂
Lindsey @ Redhead Baby Mama
I'm so happy to hear that they are NON GMO! That makes me do a happy dance!
Jaime
I'm obsessed with ice cream at night. It's getting bad, and I'm definitely trying to cut back and incorporate more fruit into my late-night snacking.
Debra
That's a great alternative for a snack. You still get that creaminess with the yogurt and the fruit so sort of like fruit flavored ice cream - but no guilt!
Elizabeth
That's why they make the stickers edible! 🙂 But this seems like a good option too...I love greek yogurt!
Chrystal @ YUM eating
I love Dole fruit jars. You can't go wrong with peaches and 'cream'
Courtney
We LOVE to have fruit as a snack, and this is a great idea for when you can't get it fresh! Dole has the best canned and jarred fruits too!
Liz Mays
I like to buy the Dole Pineapple in jars. It's so sweet and delicious. I'll have to try it with yogurt now.
Jessica
I am the worst when it comes to late night snacking. I usually go for the ice cream or chips! This looks like a yummy and much healthier alternative to those.
TerriAnn @ Cookies & Clogs
What a good idea to eat the peaches with yogurt. Err, you reminded me that I really need to hit the gym today...or any day for that matter.
Mitch
Thanks for this because my son just left for camp and I am planning on changing my eating habits.
Evening snacks are the first area that need a major adjustment!

I really need to stock up on this. I tend to grab bad food at night.

Good tips and love the simple healthy dish.

You're right. I just had a banana. I rather have a banana or fruit before bed. I use to eat cookies but I'm trying to do better.

Jenni E. {Sweet Pennies from Heaven}
I'm a late night snacker. I actually just wolfed down a handful of chocolates. You're SO right though. It doesn't have to be unhealthy. I love fruit and yogurt, but usually eat in the mornings for breakfast. I should eat it for a late night snack too!
Kay Adeola
Yummy! That is actually a great snack,I love fruit like that when i can not get the same thing fresh.
Felicia
That definitely looks like a great snack! I need to find more healthy options. Adding this to the list.
Melinda
no peach fuzz to deal with either. I love these for smoothies
Veronica
Late snacking can be very healthy with the right choices indeed. I usually go for fresh fruits over canned or fruits in a jar as I stay away from additives or preservatives. But it is sure better than chips or all the other bad stuff
Beth@FrugalFroggie
That looks so delicious. And great that it is a healthy late night snack.
Krystal
I love canned peaches. They are so good!

I love greek yogurt at night, my favorite. Also I just recently found out that the stickers on fruits are approved and edible according to the FDA, for realz, so you're fine 🙂
Susanna @Zealous Mom
That looks tasty. My late night snack is always rice cakes with peanut butter and almond milk. So yummy!
Jessica (Savory Experiments)
We tend to eat dinner late, so I rarely have midnight cravings, however I keep these peaches at work. It is the mid-morning and afternoon munchies that get me. If I don't have something healthy on hand, I go towards the evil snack machine.
Pam
That looks like a great snack to me and something I would like to stock up on in my kitchen. I love that it is non GMO too. Great idea!
Family Travel Blogger
Its like you watched me eat those three peices of bacon at 3 in the morning yesterday... lol I have to agree if I keep healthy options like this around I probably wouldnt have given in to the bacon.
Becka
PEaches are my favorite fruits and due to my thryoid I can only have them after they have been cooked or like this. I like the ones in the clear jars instead of the cans better.
Tonia
I need to pick u a few jars of these. I had to throw out a whole peach today and my daughter was sad about not getting peaches. Such a great snack.

This is a great idea. It's 10pm right now and I'm craving ice cream. This is a better option, for sure! LOL!
Alissa
Looks delicious! These would be perfect to have in the fridge for a cool and refreshing snack. We visited Napa this spring for the first time. Just gorgeous!
Christina S
Ahhh! Peaches and cottage cheese! That's how I like it, just like my grandparents used to do it. I love that it's non-GMO and fruit juice, no syrup!
Amanda
This is great! I eat an early dinner with the kids, but then I am starving late at night. I'm keeping this idea for my late night snacks
