Do you ever feel like the pace of progress is too fast? Do you sometimes feel like you are being left behind by all the new-fangled gadgets and services? You don’t have to be over 50 to feel this way.

Even people in their 20s can sometimes be left behind when their favorite service is swallowed up by a mega-corp and changed in a way that leaves them out of the new hotness. Change happens to everyone.

Sometimes, we just want to enjoy the new thing for a little while before having to quickly shift to something even newer with features for which no one was asking.

Nostalgia is a powerful thing. Sometimes, acting on it can help you stay grounded. When it feels like the ground is shifting beneath your feet, going old-school can settle things down.

Vintage is not bad. Things should not be discarded just because it has been a while since they were the new thing. We cannot fully appreciate the present without an appreciation of what went before.

So save a little room in your life for a few vintage items like these: Kicking It Old-School: 3 Vintage Products Worth Revisiting!

    Vinyl

Some of the oldies you love don’t sound very good in the formats of the present. They were recorded and mixed to be heard and appreciated on a particular medium. Vinyl records aren’t good because they are vinyl.

They are good because for much of the music you love, that is how the artists intended you to hear it. If you don’t have one, you should look into picking up a turntable to listen to that old music. Check more about Vinyl at NotesOnVinyl.com!

Many bands are still releasing new music for the turntable as well. Some people prefer it for the sonic attributes. Some prefer it for its style and aesthetic appeal. Many prefer the large sleeves with immersive cover art and informational extras.

There are lots of reasons to keep a good turntable around, especially if you love music that was made during a time when the turntable was the dominant way of hearing it.

Just remember that you don’t have to give up listening in modern ways to have a turntable. There are many models that incorporate radio, CD player, and digital music playback as well.

There is something very special about a device that embraces several generations of music enjoyment. It doesn’t have to be an either/or situation.

    Child’s Play

As a parent, do you ever feel pushed to buy your child the latest and greatest game consoles, tablets, and smartphones just to keep them properly entertained? Don’t feel bad. You are far from alone.

The good news is that you don’t have to feel that way at all. New gadgets are not the cure for a child’s boredom. You can keep your child entertained by the same means your parents kept you entertained.

The same summer activities for kids that worked for your generation will work for theirs, as well. You don’t need an iPad to play a board game. You can get the best 3D reality board game ever made by going to the closet and pulling out your classic version of Monopoly.

See how realistic those pieces are? You can practically touch them. Oh, wait… You can. If you can’t find any hard copies of the classics, you can still enjoy classic games in digital form.

    Bon Appétit

You might need a grandparent for this one. It doesn’t even have to be yours. It just has to be someone who knows the cuisine of the past. If no grandparents are readily available, try visiting old restaurants and diners.

Hint: If they serve strawberry shortcake or pineapple-upside down cake, you are at the right place. You can also visit authentic German restaurants. There are sure to be several selections that are from another world and untouched by time or progress.

Finally, you could travel to just about anywhere in the world that is not the US. Wherever the vintage is celebrated, the food is sure to please.

Don’t feel like you have to keep up with progress. You can catch up at your leisure. In the meantime, stop and smell the roses. Also, enjoy old music the way it was meant to be heard.

Play the games that made your parents happy. And enjoy the food that really was the best thing since sliced bread.
