I bet I could ask each of you about something that you want to experience in life and you'd easily be able to tell me at least a few things. From travel to learning a new language or skill, there are endless possibilities when it comes to a bucket list. I watched a video recently of new water powered jet packs and it reminded me of all the fun in the world just waiting for me. Wait, reminded? No, that's not an accurate portrayal because I am always thinking about what new adventure I'd like to embark upon. Let's say that it created a sense of urgency...yes, that's more like it!
While I do have a Bucket List here on the blog, my bucket list is mostly unofficial and I am always adding to the list in my head. One of the things that I am desperate to do is make it back to the eternal city of Rome.
Unfortunately, saving money is the top reason preventing me from crossing that - and other destinations, like Manchu Picchu - off my list. I think that's probably the case for most of us. Other reasons holding you back might be time, resources, or a combination of everything...you know, life!
It's time to make your bucket list a priority. Why not challenge yourself to save and cross one item off each year? It is your life after all! I want to go back to Rome to spend more time wandering the streets, take my time sitting in the Roman Forum, gaze upon the Arch of Constantine...I just want to soak it all in.
While on the way to Rome in 2014, Angeline came down with a nasty cold and spent most of our three days there in bed in the hotel.
I would venture out for an hour or two, exploring nearby ruins and historical monuments, then go back to check on her, then wander back out...you get the idea!
Because I was walking everywhere I went, I couldn't venture too far away and there were many things I didn't get a chance to see. Angeline only saw the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and a bit of the Roman Forum. She almost completely missed out on the experience and I want to take her back so badly!
Of course, we all know that budgeting can be a chore, but taking the time to go over it and make adjustments can give you the financial confidence you need to start making your dreams a reality.
If you don't have a budget, now is the perfect time to make it. Remember to look at all the usual places and the little things too. Those Starbucks mocha-frappa-macchiato-extra-whip concoctions might taste delicious, but those dollars could be put that towards your bucket list. Go over your car insurance plan to see if you can save money there. Try saving on your food budget by using coupons or rewards programs to bank incentives.
Check out shopping apps like Ibotta and Ebates to earn cash back on your every day purchases, and try apps/websites like Expedia.com and TripAdvisor.com to save money when you travel!
Every little bit helps! I have crossed so many things off my bucket list in the last few years - go check this out for a little inspiration!
