You know how when you try to fix something and not only does it not get fixed, but you find out something else is drastically wrong as well?
I had an inspection done today by Miami-Dade County for two air conditioning ducts that are in my family room – this is part of the on-going saga of trying to legalize the illegal additions in my newly purchased home. When the inspector came out, he noticed my air conditioning unit looked new. He ran my files on his laptop and saw that there was never any permit pulled to install a new air conditioning unit…so not only did he not pass my inspection, but he is requiring me to hire an air conditioning mechanic, have them correct some issues he found with the inside and outside units, and have that inspected as well as my air ducts…and it gets better. Whoever installed the original air conditioner back in the early 90’s did a crap job on the wiring outside the house. Its apparently a fire hazard and I also need to hire an electrician to pull a permit, correct the issue, and have an inspection on that as well. Fantastic.
Not only am I still not making any progress with the underlying issue at hand, but now I have been set back farther and have to hire TWO more people, pull TWO more permits and pay only god-knows-how-much to get this all done. Oh, and those air ducts? He would have passed them if the air conditioner has been installed with a permit…but he’s not sure if the next inspector will pass them, because they’re not exactly to code. The only upside to this horrible news is that he felt so sorry for me, and with the understanding that I am trying my best to correct everything that is wrong with my house, he decided not to issue a code violation for the air conditioner that was installed without a permit. So, there is that small bone he threw me. I had the balls to ask if there was any way he could pass my inspection and leave the air conditioner alone and he said he would love to but its his job on the line. Can’t blame a girl for trying, right?
Welcome to my life.
