"The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" will be set 64 years before the events of "The Hunger Games." It will center on Coriolanus Snow, the mentor to Katniss Everdeen in the original trilogy.
What Role Will Schafer Play?
Early reports indicated that Hunger Games directors have cast Hunter Schafer as the lead in "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" after he success with her first film, “Cuckoo,” as indicated by 12past12.com.
While that has yet to be confirmed, what is known is that Schafer will play a character named Tigris Snow, the cousin to Coriolanus Snow (played by Blyth), who most Hunger Games follows think will one day become an autocratic ruler of the dystopian society in which the Hunger Games books and films are set. Tigris Snow is "a fierce hunter who has the jawline of a tiger."
People have high expectations for Schafer in her new role, given her success in "Euphoria."
"She's a fearless actress with an incredible range," said Jon Feltheimer, CEO of Lionsgate. "We're confident that she has the chops to take on any role we throw her, and we can't wait to see what she does with this one."
Who Else Will Play a Part in the Hunger Games Prequel?
In addition to Schafer and Blyth, "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" will also feature Peter Dinklage as Casca Highbottom, the unintentional creator of the Hunger Games and the first public image. He has a complex relationship with the Snow family. Thanks to his dark humor, magnetism, and intensity, Peter is the perfect fit for the role.
Lucy Gray Baird will play Coriolanus Snow, who plays a pivotal role in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. As the female lead of the entire film, she will have a lot of pressure on her shoulders to perform, but if anyone is up for the task, it is her.
Some reports indicate that Josh Andres Rivera will also play a role in the film. However, no information has been released about his character as of yet. Hunger Games fans speculate that he could play a young version of Haymitch Abernathy, the drunken former Hunger Games victor who mentors Katniss and Peeta in the original trilogy.

The film follows a young Coriolanus Snow, the mentor to District 12 tribute, Lucy Gray Baird (Zegler). In the previous movies, Snow is portrayed as a ruthless president who hungers for power. According to Lionsgate, the movie is cast 64 years earlier than the original trilogy and will partly focus on the lead-up to the tenth edition of the Hunger Games.
In his teenage years, Coriolanus Snow is yet to rise to his position as the dictatorial ruler he is in the initial trilogy. However, he is already showing signs of the man he will become. The Hunger Games prequel "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" will showcase his "charismatic charm" that sways people to do his bidding, as well as his "cutthroat competitiveness," which makes him a formidable opponent.
Work for production has already begun in Atlanta, Georgia. The film is set to release on 17th November 2023. Fans of the Hunger Games franchise can pick up books to read in the meantime, as the film is based on Suzanne Collins's book of the same name.
