How to Use Yummly for Food Bloggers

Back in the good old days of Pinterest, you could pin your brand new fabulous recipe and drive traffic to your blog post and gain new followers. For reasons that I can't quite understand - because it sucks - Pinterest has changed their algorithm and no longer shows those who follow a user recent pins. Not only has Pinterest completely ruined their website for me as a user (really?! who wants to see the same exact pins every single freaking day, instead of the pins by the people I followed for the sole intention of seeing their pins?!), but it's also ruined the platform for me as a food blogger. So I've moved on, and I've moved on to the Yummly.com website that is perfect for us foodies!

    How does Yummly work?

Yummly puts every recipe in the world in your pocket. The most powerful recipe search, the recipe sites you love, your digital recipe box, recipe recommendations just for you, and a smart shopping list - all with you wherever you go. As recipes get more Yums, they get exposed more often throughout all of the Yummly platforms and features.

You can search for recipes by search term, or by category - like the popular now category.

    yum

You'll notice that each recipe shows the title of the recipe, the main ingredients, cook time and ratings in the search results. Pretty handy, right?

Once you select a recipe, you'll find even more information, like the entire ingredient list. Then you just follow the link to the recipe itself for instructions on how to make it. You'll also find related recipes in the sidebar!

How do food bloggers get their recipes on Yummly?

The best way to get your recipes on Yummly is to add the Yum button to your blog or website. You can YUM your own recipes this way, but it's a great way to get your readers to YUM them too! Once your recipes are Yummed, they'll show up on the Yummly website under Yummly.com/page/yourblogURL. When you Yum other people's recipes (as well as your own), they'll all show up in your Recipe Box on the Yummly site.

You can also add the Yummly bookmarklet to YUM recipes from all over the web!

How do I get featured on Yummly?

Follow the steps above (add the Yum button, announce to your readers, and then fill out this form). Once you have taken all of the steps, you will be eligible for inclusion in various features on our website, apps, social channels, and email.

What are some best practices to increase the exposure of my recipes?

More Yums on your recipes equals more traffic. Bloggers who educate their readers, encourage use of Yummly, and promote their Yummly publisher page see more Yums and more traffic. Volume of recipes is also a factor. More recipes on Yummly will lead to more referral traffic from them.

I feel so confused about Yummly but you did clear up some things! Question: I found my blogs page but how do I edit that information? Like the photo for it and other info? What am I missing!? 🙂 Thanks for the awesome informational post!
