There’s a reason why we call cats and dogs our best friends. There are plenty of reasons for that, but did you know that pets can reduce your anxiety and help people with mental problems? Well, now, you know.

Of course, if you want your dog, cat or any other pet to be there for you, you need to take care of it. Here’s where sites like My Sweet Puppy come in to make sure you are the best owner the pet can have. A happy pet means a happy owner. It’s as simple as that.

But let’s take a closer look at cats. Why are they so important in our lives, and how they can help reduce human anxiety? You’ll find the answer to that question below.

How cats help to reduce human anxiety

    They’ll be there for you.

Cats have proven themselves to be great companions for people who lost someone close. They may only be animals, but it turns out that people who own a cat get over their loss much less painfully. They serve psychological and physical support to people who’re mourning.

How do they do that? They’re just there. That’s all. People in mourning tell that all they do is talk to their cats. It’s easier to speak to something that won’t judge you and respond with words that may make things worse.

Moreover, cats love you, unconditionally. They don’t ask for anything. They’re nearby whenever you need them. The relationship between you and your cat isn’t complicated and makes you less anxious when it comes to interacting with other people.

Why? Because you know that whenever you come back home, there will be a friend who loves you and is waiting for you. Your cat.

They distract you from your problems.

If you come back home anxious, angry and full of negative emotions, all you need to do is sit down and play with your cat. Cats can create a useful and much-needed distraction from your problems and negative thoughts.

Many specialists recommend playing with your pet when you’re sad, angry or anxious. Your cat will instantly cheer you up and make you forget about upsetting or stressful situations in your life. Some people even watch videos of cats on the internet just for a little mood boost.

Playing with your cat can also create social comfort for you or your children when you invite someone over. You’ll feel more comfortable and confident with your cat merely sitting on your lap.

    Their purr is actual medicine.

Yes, that’s correct, you don’t have to read that heading again. Healing power of cats purr is a scientifically proven fact. Cat’s purr can lower stress and anxiety, as well as help, laboured breathing or lower your blood pressure.

All because they purr vibrations within a range of 20-140 Hz. That frequency is known to be medically therapeutic and has calming effects on your whole body and mind. If you’re not sure about this one, ask any cat owner how calming the cat’s purr can be.

Forget about relaxing music or waterfall sounds. All you need to do is lie down with your cat, and you can be sure that your anxiety and stress will fade away once it starts purring.

They bring responsibility and routine to your life.

The responsibility and routine that comes to your life with the cat can be an essential part of your therapy. Why? Because it brings purpose and logic. By doing simple things like feeding the animal, cleaning its litter box and playing with it, you’ll feel happier and less anxious.

All because of that fact mentioned above- pet brings purpose to your life. People who are anxious or depressed often find their lives to be meaningless. Remembering to take care of your cat or any other pet can create a sense and add meaning to your life.

The same goes for routine. All you need to do is create a plan on how you want to spend your time with your cat, what time do you need to feed it, and how many times a day do you clean its litter box.

Remembering all that can bring you relief and distract you from your day to day problems, at least for a brief moment, you need to calm down.

    Summary

Don’t believe anyone who tells you that you can’t doesn’t love you or care about you. It’s the popular belief in our society that cats are just selfish and aloof, but the reality is entirely different.

Cats are caring and loving animals, that make great companions. What’s more, it’s proven that they have a significant and positive influence on our mental and general well-being. Owning a cat can significantly reduce your stress, anxiety or other psychological and physical health problems.

Just think. If cats purrs have a therapeutic impact on your life, imagine how many benefits come with the whole package.
