I just have to share Angeline’s homemade costume from last night! She made her own The Walking Dead zombie costume!
We live pretty close to Miami Metro Zoo Zoo Miami and they do a Boo at the Zoo trick or treating event there every year. During the day, kids can come dressed in costume to get candy but at night?
It’s a whole different story. Local high school students get decked out in costume – this year the theme was zombies – and hide throughout the park and jump out to scare the kids as they trick or treat.
Angeline and her friend Emily spent two hours ripping their shirts, painting their faces, rolling around in the dirt outside (no, seriously, they wanted to look “real”) and gluing fake blood and moss to their foreheads to recreate the zombies from our favorite television show, The Walking Dead.
Should I let my daughter watch AMC’s The Walking Dead? I don’t know, it seems okay to me – she’s 15 after all.
There’s gore, sure, but not any more than she sees in video games. There’s not much cursing, there’s no drug use, and there’s hardly any sex. Plus, she’s learning serious survival skills should a zombie apocalypse actually occur.
Shoot, she’s learning survival skills for any kind of national disaster, if you think about it…finding shelter, getting together with others because there is strength in numbers, rationing food, finding clean water – these are all things that work just as well on a deserted island, right?
Angeline worked really hard making her The Walking Dead zombie costume and I think they both did an awesome job!
She started with ripping an old PE shirt from middle school and putting on a bandeau top underneath. She left her jeans normal. She started blackening her eyes – you know, because all zombies have those dead eyes!
Angeline and her friend started painting their faces with earth-tone eye shadows, mostly green and browns, then really laid on the black eye shadow and eye liner.
Then they took their white shirts outside and rolled them around in the dirt, brought them back inside and rubbed fake blood all over them and rubbed it on various parts of their bodies to really get that un-dead look.
I think they did a pretty good job, Angeline was creeping me out!
