As a mom to multiple fur babies, my heart pulls for all of the animals in shelters. As we approach the holiday season, a number of children across the US will be waking up to small fur balls under the tree but what many people don't know is that the holidays are also a time when animal shelters across the US see huge spikes in the number of animals dropped off at shelters.
According to the ASPCA approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.4 million are cats and only 37% of them end up adopted....what do you think happens to the rest of them? That's A LOT of homeless kitties. As you might recall, we adopted Tarzan and Gizmo from the Humane Society of Greater Miami after two years of fostering kittens for them - these two...well, I just couldn't give them back! Since then, we've taken in two more kittens: Hazel, which Angeline's vet teacher found on the side of the road in 2014, and Kuro, who wandered up to Angeline at a local park.
There are seriously kittens and cats crawling out of the woodwork in Miami, and I am sure it's not much different in your city!
To celebrate National Cat Day, Uber is teaming up with local shelters to help raise money for shelters AND get adorable furballs adopted. If you're looking to get in some snuggle time with kittens and want to contribute to shelters at their busiest (and neediest) time of year - without the commitment of adoption - you can come snuggle babies to your heart's content.
It's $25 for the best 15 minutes you will spend all day. Every dollar spent snuggling these kittens is going directly to the local participating shelter in each city.
Or maybe you're someone who would love to find a fluffy ball of fur under the tree this year? UberKITTENS is happening nationwide in 50-60 cities across the country.
