We all love our smart devices. I know that I get antsy when I'm away from my phone for too long, or when I am unable to connect to service or WiFi...it's always in the back of my mind. What if a client is trying to contact me? What if I miss a great photo opp? Being a blogger - especially a blogger that spends a lot of time traveling - my devices have to be in perfect working order AT ALL TIMES. I simply cannot allow for any down time, and the thought of having a cracked or broken device makes my skin crawl. Corning® Gorilla® Glass 4 provides an ultra-tough glass cover, so that breakage and cracking is dramatically reduced, which is a great benefit to a clumsy chick like myself.
My smart phone is my mobile command center, especially when I am traveling. I need to know that when I whip my phone out to catch a great shot, it's going to survive if - more like when - I drop it.
Gorilla Glass 4 Offers Silver Back Protection
Silverback protection. What do I mean by that? Have you ever watched a nature show on Silverback gorillas? Have you seen those things!? They are super tough, and they protect themselves and their families at all costs. No matter what the danger, the mighty Silverback male is there, thumping his chest and staving off attacks of every sort.
That's exactly what Gorilla Glass 4 does for our smart devices. This superbly engineered, ultra tough glass cover is made to withstand falls that ordinary glass just can't handle. In fact, studies have shown that Gorilla Glass 4 is up to two times tougher than standard smart device glass, and it survives an astounding 80% of falls. That's the kind of protection you usually only get when you buy a phone case!
Gorilla Glass 4 is the Leader in Protection from the Leader in Glass
This stuff is tough, and it's no wonder. It's made by Corning. They are THE name in glass, and they have been for as long as I can remember. To make this super tough glass, Corning uses the same proprietary fusion technology that they use for their award winning LCD screen technology. Using an "isopipe" Corning feeds their molten glass through an overfill until if flows evenly over both sides and then fuses at the bottom. This creates a continuous sheet of flat glass which is incredibly tough, clear, and thin. That's SUPER thin. Through the entire process, the glass is protected from anything that might mar its surface and reduce its superior toughness - even human hands.
Remember how I said that Gorilla Glass 4 survives 80% of falls? Well, those aren't cake falls. Corning doesn't throw them from a three foot drop on to a rubberized pad. Oh no. These falls are fast. They are high. And they are falls to surfaces which mimic concrete sidewalks and all of the other horribly dangerous surfaces that our smart devices could encounter. In fact, Corning's tests of their Gorilla Glass 4 are the most strenuous tests of any glass covering manufacturer in the industry. Like I said: Silverback tough.
Gorilla Glass is used in a wide variety of today's smart devices, and its easy to see why. No manufacturer wants to produce a product that can't survive a fall the way Gorilla Glass 4 can. In fact, you can find Gorilla Glass 4 used in smartphones, slates and tablets, and notebooks. It's everywhere!
I have Corning's Gorilla Glass on all of my Nokia Lumia products, which is a huge relief because I use my Lumia 1020 as my mobile photography phone and my 2520 tablet for work while I travel. If I were to crack that screen, I would be a very, very sad travel blogger.
The loss of my phone and tablet while traveling could actually have a very serious negative effect on my business! This is no laughing matter, folks. A tough, sturdy screen on my smartphone and tablet is an absolute MUST.
I've Got a Silver Back in my Pocket. Do You?
I've got a Silver Back in my pocket, and I love that. While I still use a protective case on the back of my smart phone, it's nice be able to use the bare minimum and say good bye to that clunky old case that I used on my previous camera phone...you know the one; it doubled the size of my phone and made it look pretty ugly to boot.
