My five-year old's room looks like a toy store blew up in it. As the holidays approach we find ourselves sorting through her accumulation of Barbies, Legos, Books and various other toys, weeding them into three distinct categories: Keep, Toss, Donate. With a large family, my daughter is easily spoiled and with a new wave of toys coming this holiday season I always wonder where we're going to put them all. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather see her building a castle designed from the depths of her imagination than parked in front of the TV. It's just that I would rather those toys then be stored "in the cloud" until we're ready to use them again.
Apparently I'm not the only parent who feels this way. Ranan Lachman had spent thousands of dollars acquiring new LEGO toys for his kids before he realized there was a better way to play without breaking the bank - he invented Pley. Pley is the leading toy rental company, helping smart parents save money, reduce clutter and help the environment.
The idea is pretty simple: for a monthly subscription fee, parents have access to hundreds of simple to ultra-complex LEGO sets, hot robotic toys like BB-8 or Dash, or Knex sets. Pley even has some exclusive LEGO sets which are very popular! To date, there are over 300,000 smart “pleyers” saving as much as 70% on toys that tend to be short lived.
Getting started is pretty painless too with three simple steps:
- Sign up. I just had to enter a few details about myself. Name, address, billing info - the usual.
- Create my Pleylist. Maddilyn got to choose her favorite LEGO themes and Pley filled her Pleylist with sets that match her preferences.
- Receive a set. Play. Send it back!
The best part is that this idea eliminates some of the clutter in our homes and it keeps kids from getting bored with their toys. Once they’ve finished playing with their toy, they can simply swap it out for a different toy. No more wasting money on toys that are left gathering dust on my shelves!
Our first Pley box brought us the LEGO City Park Cafe and promptly kept Maddilyn and her dad busy building for an hour while I cooked dinner. She has spent hours playing with the Cafe but I know that eventually she will move onto something else. Which is perfect because I can send it back and wait for her new box to arrive. That's the beauty of Pley!
You can sign up for Pley yourself or even give a subscription as a gift! What a great holiday gift idea, right?

We've had a chance to try Pley and the kids are really enjoying finding new sets to play with and integrate into their existing sets. So far, no lost blocks- and the turnaround is pretty good! I've got a feeling we're going to be saving a lot!

Pley is one of the best ideas of heard in a long time. No more cluttered rooms and toys the kids never touch. I love it!

I have heard such great things about Pley. I think it's pretty awesome and would be great for those who don't want clutter of lots of toys and those who get bored with toys often!

I have seen this before and I want so bad to do it. My problem is my kiddo likes to hoard his toys LOL I would never be able to give them back LOL.

I think this is such a smart way to go. My kids love to play with toys but get bored so easily. This is a win win for everyone!

I'd love to start weeding out some of my son's toys. There are many that are just in pieces and need to be tossed, and many more he doesn't play with and could be donated. Maybe I can tempt him with a Pley subscription and see if he'd be willing to purge.

What an awesome way to keep the kids entertained all year long. I think my son would have been pretty happy to have unlimited Lego sets to build!

We've used Pley before and I think it's a great concept. Looks like they added some great stuff since then too!

Oh my goodness, what a fabulous idea. The gift that keeps giving... I am totally looking into this 🙂 Plus $19.99 a month is a great price

This is such a great concept. I am curious though... if your child really likes a certain toy is there the option of purchasing it and not being required to send back?

I have never heard of Pley before. I thought your title was spelled wrong at first. I'll have to check it out.

Such a great idea! I loved playing with legos as a kid!

Absolutely love this concept. Kids grow out of toys so quickly and this is a more economical and clutter free way of keeping things interesting and engaged as children grow older.

I actually love this idea but I am scared my kids would lose pieces. I am going to consider it though!

Kids get bored with toys so quickly! A rental service is a great way to give them a great variety of toys without breaking the bank!
